History was waiting for Donegal’s boys soccer players. They weren’t going to let this opportunity slip away.
Donegal knocked off Octorara 2-0 in a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 match at Mount Joy Thursday. The Indians clinched their first section title since 1988.
Two juniors who started as freshmen delivered the goals.
George Shaker struck for the second time this season in the fifth minute. Mason Musser added his 15th goal in the 54th minute.
Donegal (8-1-1 L-L, 11-3-2) held off Manheim Central (8-2, 12-3-1) in a season-long fight for first place. Both teams have qualified for next week’s L-L tournament. The Indians are unbeaten in their last eight games.
Manheim Central 3, Northern Lebanon 0: At Manheim, the Barons gave themselves a chance to pass Donegal in the standings when they took care of the Vikings.
Simon Vogt scored in the first half. Brett Sensenig recorded his team-leading ninth goal in the 43rd minute and Josiah Zook tallied late for Central.
Central fell short in a bid for its first section title since 2018. The Barons return to the league tournament for the first time in three seasons.
