The Philadelphia Eagles released backup quarterback Andy Dalton on Friday, according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Tanner McKee and Cole Payton now sit behind Jalen Hurts on Philadelphia’s depth chart.

The Eagles’ roster has undergone several changes as of late, with center Cam Jurgens getting traded to the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday after right tackle Lane Johnson retired on Tuesday.

As for Dalton, an eventual return to Philadelphia is a possibility.

The Eagles could still bring him back on their 53-man roster or practice squad, per Garafolo.

Dalton was in the midst of his first season in Philadelphia after spending the past three years as a depth option for the Carolina Panthers.

The 38-year-old suited up in three preseason contests for the Eagles, going 18-of-35 for 168 yards and one touchdown without getting picked off.

Dalton briefly appeared in Philadelphia’s 27-7 loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 3 as Hurts was being evaluated for a concussion, tossing an interception while the Eagles had the ball at Chicago’s two-yard line.

Hurts returned to the game on the team’s next drive.

The Eagles eventually promoted McKee to their second-string quarterback spot over Dalton on Sunday.

Despite the veteran’s costly turnover, Philadelphia may value his experience and look to sign him again as it attempts to clinch a sixth consecutive playoff berth.

Dalton has started 169 games across his 16 seasons in the NFL from 2011-26, while McKee has just two starts under his belt. Payton, a fifth-round rookie, has yet to appear in a regular-season game.
