Week 6 of college football was defined by upsets, with four unranked teams topping ranked foes, including Oklahoma taking down No. 1 Texas. Week 7 features a high-profile slate packed with six ranked-vs.-ranked matchups.
It’s rare that we get six top-25 matchups in one weekend. The last time there were six such games was back in Week 4 of this season, but before that it had been three years, with the previous time being the 2023 conference championships.
How did those Week 4 games pan out? No. 1 Texas and No. 17 Iowa squeaked past No. 14 Tennessee and No. 18 Michigan, respectively, while No. 10 LSU dominated No. 23 Texas A&M. However, three lower-seeded teams handed their opponents their first losses of the season — No. 21 Florida and No. 20 Oregon overpowered No. 4 Ole Miss and No. 12 USC, respectively, while No. 24 Mississippi State topped No. 19 Missouri.

Through the first six weeks of the season, we’ve seen 16 ranked-vs.-ranked games, and the results are perfectly split. Eight higher-ranked teams defeated lower-ranked opponents, while eight lower-ranked teams pulled off the upset.
We could see plenty more lower-ranked teams win this weekend with all the higher-ranked teams on the road this week, with the exception of No. 9 Ole Miss returning to Oxford to face No. 13 Missouri.
Undefeated records and College Football Playoff hopes are on the line in Week 7, here’s everything you need to know about these pivotal matchups:
No. 4 Ohio State at No. 5 Indiana —12 p.m. on FOX
The Buckeyes prepare to face their third ranked opponent of the season after defeating Iowa in Week 5 and falling to Texas Week 2. The Hoosiers, meanwhile, face their first top-25 competitor and will look to improve to 7-0 on the season back home in Bloomington.
No. 16 Mississippi State at No. 22 LSU — 12 p.m. on ESPN
The Bulldogs and Tigers each enter the weekend looking for their fifth win after suffering losses to Alabama and Kentucky, respectively. Both teams have faced two ranked opponents, each splitting those games, 1-1.
No. 6 Alabama at No. 14 Tennessee — 3:30 p.m. on ABC
The Crimson Tide and Volunteers each head into the weekend’s matchup at 5-1, with both teams suffering their lone losses at home against top-two opponents. Alabama fell to Georgia last week, while Tennessee lost to Texas in Week 4.
