Yandy Díaz is calling his shot.

The Tampa Bay Rays slugger believes his club will wrap up the American League Championship Series at home in Game 6 on Monday.

“It’s a great opportunity,” Díaz told reporters after Tampa Bay’s win in Game 5. “All of us are thinking of it. But it all ends tomorrow. We’re going to win tomorrow.”

After splitting the first two games and trailing in the series 2-1 after Game 3, the Rays have rattled off back-to-back wins, and will have two opportunities at Tropicana Field to reach the World Series. Tampa Bay clinched both the AL East title and the ALDS at Yankee Stadium this season.

A big part of the Rays’ turnaround this series has been due to Díaz’s performance over the last two games. After going 3-for-13 over the first three games, he’s responded by going 5-for-10 with two RBIs and three runs scored over the last two wins.

“I mean, Yandy’s – I’ve said it for many seasons: he goes, we go,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said Sunday. “We talk about leaders on the team and how they go about their business.

“And what Yandy does at the top of our lineup, it ignites everybody. Not surprised that he is starting to see the ball well.”

The Rays have reached the World Series twice in franchise history (2008, 2020) but lost both times. The organization has never won a championship since breaking into the league in 1998.

Right-hander Freddy Peralta will start for Tampa Bay on Monday, while the Guardians will counter with an opener.

Cleveland won’t need to look very far for inspiration, however. The Guardians dropped the first two games of the ALDS to the Chicago White Sox, only to win three straight to win the series.

“We don’t like being in this position, but, like we said the last series, our backs were against the wall. They’ve been against the wall for a long time. This is when this team thrives,” Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said.

“We know we’ve got our work cut out for us. It’s a really good team and a really good team when they play at home, especially. So we know this is going to be tough but if there’s a group I’m betting on to get this done, it’s our guys.”

The Rays and Milwaukee Brewers tied for the MLB lead with 55 home wins during the regular season. Tampa Bay is 3-1 at the Trop during these playoffs.

Game 1 of the World Series opens Friday in Milwaukee.
