If the whispers are right, African football fans won’t have to wait much longer. Sources close to the matter suggest the Confederation of African Football (CAF) could be on the verge of confirming the date and venue for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup group stage draw.

Soccer Laduma has learnt that the draw will take place in Egypt’s capital, Cairo, on Wednesday, 28 October.

However, CAF has not officially announced the date, but the organisation is expected to do so this week.

South Africa is represented by the reigning champions Mamelodi Sundowns, who are entertaining Angolan side Wiliete in the second preliminary round, which is the last hurdle before the Champions League group stage.

The two sides played to a goalless draw in the first leg in Luanda and will meet in the second leg scheduled for Pretoria on Friday, 23 October.

Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates are also involved in Africa’s premier club competition. The Buccaneers will look to finish the job against Namibian side African Stars, who they beat 1-0 in Gaborone, in the first leg. The two sides will clash again at the Orlando Stadium on Friday.
