It’s probably easier to be a gracious visitor after a winning performance, but the way Connecticut head coach Dan Hurley heaped praise upon the environment at Breslin Center for Tuesday’s exhibition game against Michigan State was hard to ignore, especially coming from somebody with legendary basketball bloodlines.

After his Huskies posted a 78-70 win over Tom Izzo and the No. 6-ranked Spartans, Hurley couldn’t say enough about how special he found the atmosphere in East Lansing and considered it a privilege to play a game on the Spartans’ home floor, a place he’s wanted to compete for a long time. MSU led for just 1 minute, 11 seconds on Tuesday in the second of three exhibition games. Afterward, Izzo lamented his team’s lack of physicality and was disappointed in the performances of some of his veteran players. The Spartans previously beat Incarnate Word, 89-59, on Oct. 2 during the annual Izzone campout event. The Spartans will wrap up exhibition season on Sunday against Marquette in Milwaukee.

Izzo and the Spartans officially kick off the regular season Nov. 2 at home against Quinnipiac.
