(WLUK) — Neenah High School will host two NCAA Division III post-season football games on Nov. 21.
The Riverbend Bowl Series will feature college football teams that didn’t make the NCAA playoffs.
The event was announced by the American Rivers Conference, whose members are mostly in Iowa.
“This is what achievement rallied by community looks like,” said Marie Stroman, ARC Commissioner. “More postseason opportunities for our student-athletes, built together with institutions who believe in the Division III experience as much as we do, and brought to life through the outstanding planning of our staff and championships committee.”
The release doesn’t mention which other leagues might be participating. The NACC, which includes St. Norbert College, confirms it will participate.
FOX 11 has sent messages to the Midwest Conference (which includes Lawrence University and Ripon College) and WIAC (University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh) to see if they are participating.
The inaugural series is scheduled to feature two games at Neenah High School, with kickoff times set for noon and 5 p.m. Participating teams, selection criteria, ticket information and broadcast details will be announced at a later date.
“We are honored and so excited to have the inaugural Riverbend Bowl Series take place in the Fox Cities this November,” wrote Matt Ten Haken, Director of Sports Marketing at Fox Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau. “This event will be a tremendous culmination of a great season of college football for these teams and we expect an exciting game-day atmosphere and intense competition. When they are not at the field, visitors will be able to explore how much there is to eat, see, and do in the Fox Cities area.”
This would be second set of bowl games for area colleges. The Lakefront Bowl pits teams from the MWC and NACC. This year’s event will be at Carroll University in Waukesha.
