The United States will host the first Women’s Club World Cup, FIFA announced on Thursday.

The tournament will be staged from Jan. 5-30, 2028. The decision was taken in view of the country’s experience in organizing FIFA tournaments, the maturity of its infrastructure and services, and the level of stakeholder interest in women’s football in the country.

Access will be granted based on the sporting results of clubs in their confederation’s premier club competition over the four-year qualifying period spanning the seasons ending in 2024 and 2027, to ensure that the competition is of the highest possible quality.

FIFA also announced that the semifinals of the final phase of 2027 Women’s Champions Cup, which will take place from Jan. 26-31, 2027 in Miami, will take place on separate days. The decision was taken to enhance the visibility of the tournament.

The FIFA Council also announced that preparation money for the 2027 Women’s World Cup will be increased to $2.5 million per participating member association, on par with the 2026 World Cup. Players in that Women’s World Cup will enjoy the same service levels as their male counterparts in 2026. Any surplus from the women’s tournament will be allocated to the member associations involved.

Additional details are due to be discussed by the FIFA Council at its next meeting in December.
