Indiana Fever governor Herb Simon announced Friday that Kelly Krauskopf is stepping down as the organization’s team president.
Krauskopf served as the Fever’s inaugural general manager from 2000 to 2017, and after a stint with the NBA’s Indiana Pacers, including a run as assistant GM from 2018 to 2024, she returned to become the Fever’s president in 2025.
During Krauskopf’s time as general manager, the Fever won three Eastern Conference titles, and the franchise’s first and only WNBA championship in 2012.
A Texas A&M alum, Krauskopf was essentially part of the WNBA from its inception, acting as the league’s director of operations from 1997 to 1999 before becoming the Fever’s GM.
Krauskopf had a major hand in the drafting or acquisition of many of the greatest players in Fever history, including Tamika Catchings and Katie Douglas, who were key figures in Indiana’s lone championship.
After a successful run in the Pacers’ front office that included three trips to the playoffs, highlighted by reaching the Eastern Conference Finals in 2024, Krauskopf returned to the Fever in September 2024, just five months after they selected Caitlin Clark No. 1 overall in the WNBA draft.
Krauskopf’s second stint with the Fever saw them reach the playoffs three times in three seasons, including making it to the semifinals in 2025.
Although the Fever fell in the first round of the 2026 WNBA playoffs to the Las Vegas Aces, they have a strong foundation that should lead to plenty of winning in the years to come.
Clark and Aliyah Boston are locked in for at least the next two years, and if the Fever can re-sign Kelsey Mitchell before she hits free agency this coming offseason, that trio should continue to be a force to be reckoned with moving forward.
