COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – South Carolina returns from the bye week with a huge home matchup against No. 11 Tennessee.
The Gamecocks struck first on their opening possession, going 75 yards in less than five minutes on a drive capped off by a touchdown pass by LaNorris Sellers to Mazeo Bennett.
After the USC defense forced a three-and-out, Sellers found paydirt again on a 31-yard run out of the pocket to make it a two-score game early.
The Volunteers got on the board on a DeSean Bishop run from a yard out, finishing off a drive that went over nine minutes and stretched into the second quarter.
Tennessee got the ball back minutes later when Sellers was intercepted by TJ Metcalf, setting up the Vols deep in Gamecock territory. Tennessee’s DaSaahn Brame punched in a goal line run that would tie the game midway through the second quarter.
The story so far
The Gamecocks sit at 3-3 coming out of the bye week after a 38-19 road win at No. 20 Florida on Oct. 10. That win snapped South Carolina’s eight-game losing streak in SEC play that dated back over a year.
The Volunteers, meanwhile, are 6-1 and are coming off a 26-10 home victory over No. 13 Alabama. Tennessee’s only loss so far came to No. 19 Texas on Sept. 26.
Series history
Saturday will be the 43rd all-time meeting between the Gamecocks and Volunteers, with the series dating back to 1903.
Tennessee leads the series 29-11-2.
