President Donald Trump is hitting the campaign trail with a trio of Texas college football stars.
The president has been leaning into the most popular sport in the country and Texas lately as he tries to make the Republican case ahead of midterm elections. Trump attended the Texas-Tennessee game in Knoxville in late September and planned to make an appearance at the Georgia-Alabama game in Tuscaloosa earlier this month before canceling because of Hurricane Isaias.
Football fans and Texas voters alike may have heard of Manziel, who in 2012 became the first freshman in history to win the Heisman trophy after leading the Aggies to an 11-2 record in their first season in the SEC.
McCoy played for the Longhorns from 2006-2009 and was a two-time Heisman finalist (2008 and 2009). He led Texas to the national championship game in 2009 against Alabama, but was forced out with a shoulder injury on the opening drive as the Longhorns fell 37-21.
Amendola played for the Red Raiders from 2004-2007, totaling 204 receptions, 2,246 yards and 15 touchdowns in his college career. He went undrafted in 2008 and signed with the Dallas Cowboys before making his way to the New England Patriots, where he won two Super Bowls.
