ESU goes on the attack against Rogers State.
Junior forward Megan Kephart scored twice in the second half and the Emporia State soccer team came back to beat Rogers State 3-2 to wrap up the regular season at the ESU Pitch on Wednesday. The Lady Hornets struggled against the wind in the first half and trailed 1-0 at the break before erupting for three second-half goals. Kephart scored twice in the first 12 minutes of the frame on assists by Sammy Quiroz and Avery Zimmerman. RSU answered, but Hailey Gancarz capitalized on a dish from Rylie Washington to put ESU for good less than six minutes later. Kephart said the team tried to play loose in the second half.
Head coach Jane Grimley-Gunn said sometimes Kephart can get on a roll.
ESU wraps up the regular season with a 8-5-5 record finishing 4-3-4 inside ‘The Association’. The Black & Gold posted a sparkling 8-1-1 record on the ESU Pitch, but is 0-4-4 on the road this year. The Lady Hornets have clinched a berth in the MIAA Tournament and will be on the road to face their first round opponent on Sunday.
