Now in her second season with the Golden State Valkyries, she’s on the brink of winning a WNBA championship.
In January, Chen will bring the same championship-contending drive to Miami in Unrivaled.
The 3×3 league, co-founded by former Husky greats Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart, announced Wednesday afternoon that it has signed Chen to a one-year deal ahead of the league’s upcoming 2027 season. Unrivaled also announced the signing of Isabelle Harrison to a one-year deal on Wednesday. Unrivaled signed Chen and Harrison following news that Aliyah Boston will no longer play in Unrivaled’s upcoming season due to her ongoing injury recovery, and Kate Martin agreed to a mutual contract termination with the league.
Chen becomes the seventh Husky to suit up for Unrivaled in 2027, joining Collier, Stewart, Aaliyah Edwards, Paige Bueckers, Gabby Williams and Tiffany Hayes. Chen teamed up with Bueckers while in Storrs and currently plays with Williams and Hayes on the Valkyries. Unrivaled also announced Wednesday that fellow former Husky Barbara Turner will be the head coach of Hive BC.
Chen joined UConn for the 2024-25 season after playing at Princeton under former Husky Carla Berube for three years. The California native was named the 2023 Ivy League Player of the Year and three-time Ivy League Tournament Most Outstanding Player while with the Tigers. In Storrs, Chen took over as the Huskies’ primary point guard and helped lead the program to its 12th national championship. She was drafted No. 30 overall in the 2025 WNBA Draft by Golden State.
While the Valkyries initially waived her before the start of the 2025 season, the franchise re-signed her later that summer. She’s since turned into a fan favorite in the Bay Area and one of Golden State’s most vital reserves. Chen helped lead the Valkyries to the first round of the WNBA Playoffs last season and to the WNBA Finals this season. Ahead of Thursday’s Game 6, Chen is averaging 4.6 points, 1.2 assists, 1.0 rebounds and 0.1 blocks in 10.7 minutes per game during the 2026 Playoffs.
During the 2026 regular season, Chen averaged career-bests of 7.2 points, 1.9 assists, 1.1 rebounds and 0.3 steals in 15.3 minutes per game. She also improved her shooting by going from a 38.0 field goal percentage her rookie year to a 52.7% this season.
The Valkyries hold a 3-2 advantage over the Atlanta Dream in the WNBA Finals heading into a decisive Game 6.
