Fenerbahce Istanbul are finalizing an agreement to sign veteran NBA center Dwight Powell, sources tell BasketNews.

Per sources, a 13-year NBA veteran is set to join the Turkish club on a one-year deal.

According to BasketNews sources, Fenerbahce have been in talks with Powell for some time, while the Canadian big man has also attracted strong interest from several other teams.

However, Powell is now set to join Fenerbahce’s frontcourt.

The 35-year-old center recently became a free agent following the NBA’s final roster cuts in October.

Powell spent more than a decade with the Dallas Mavericks, establishing himself as a reliable rotation player known for his energy, physicality, team-oriented impact, efficient finishing around the rim, and effectiveness in pick-and-roll situations.

He also brings extensive NBA playoff experience, having been part of Dallas’ run to the 2024 NBA Finals.

Dwight Powell’s NBA stats

Last season, Powell averaged 3.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 14 minutes per game, shooting 64.4% from the field.

In 768 NBA appearances, the Canadian center averaged 6.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.0 assist in 17.5 minutes per game.

Powell became one of the NBA’s most efficient finishers in Dallas, ranking fourth in Mavericks franchise history with a 60.6% career field goal percentage.

His efficiency was particularly impressive between 2018 and 2020, when he consistently converted more than 70% of his field goal attempts.

What Dwight Powell could bring to Fenerbahce

Powell built his offensive game around setting effective screens, rolling to the basket, finishing lobs, and creating opportunities for teammates.

The veteran center is also known for his durability and professionalism.

During the 2021-22 campaign, Powell played in all 100 of Dallas’ regular-season and playoff games, showing he can handle a demanding schedule.

His physical approach, willingness to battle for position in the paint, and ability to switch defensively onto smaller opponents could make him a valuable addition to Fenerbahce’s frontcourt.

Powell’s unselfish style and experience in a team-oriented system could also help him adapt to EuroLeague demands.
