A Beaufort woman is headed to NASCAR Championship Weekend in Miami, where she’ll have a shot at winning $1 million.

Tina Lanning is one of four finalists in NASCAR Powerball’s The Chase to $1 Million promotion. Her name was announced Sunday during the NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway. The other finalists are from Maryland, North Carolina and Nebraska.

One finalist will win $1 million in a live drawing at Homestead-Miami Speedway before the NASCAR Cup Series Championship race on Sunday, Nov. 8. The other three finalists will each receive $10,000.

“This is so cool,” Lanning told South Carolina Education Lottery officials. “If I win the $1 million, I want to buy a piece of land.”

A series of lucky draws

Lanning, who says she plays Powerball when she feels lucky, entered the promotion in the spring. She made it through a series of elimination drawings that narrowed a field of 25 lottery winners to four finalists.

Along the way, participants had opportunities to win cash prizes, and the four finalists earned VIP trips valued at $10,000 each.

It’s the third consecutive year a South Carolina Education Lottery player has reached the final round of the promotion.
