Mississippi State soccer ended its regular season with its first ranked win.
The Bulldogs took down No. 6 Alabama 1-0 Sunday. MSU’s goal came in the first half off the foot of sophomore Chiarra Tappe. MSU ends the season undefeated against ranked opponents with a 1-0-3 record.
“I’m pumped for the girls because they worked so hard,” head coach Kevin O’Brien said in a release from MSU soccer. “It was such a new group being thrown together in July, and to see where they are now from where we started, as a coaching staff that spent a lot of time trying to get us on the same page, it’s a real reward to see the girls enjoying a moment like this.”
MSU ends its regular season 9-2-6, 3-1-6 in SEC play. The Bulldogs will head to Pensacola, Florida, for the SEC Tournament this weekend. MSU, the No. 8 seed, opens the tournament against ninth-seeded Texas on Sunday.
The Bulldogs have never won the SEC Tournament, falling in the semifinals the past two seasons.
