The 2026 WNBA season may have just ended, but the league is already gearing up for the 2027 season.

The 2027 WNBA Draft Lottery will take place at 7:30pm ET on Nov. 15.

Six teams who were not in the 2026 Playoffs will be involved in the lottery: The Houston Comets (previously known as the Connecticut Sun), Los Angeles Sparks, Portland Fire, Seattle Storm, Toronto Tempo and Washington Mystics.

How does the WNBA Draft Lottery work?

Teams are assigned a number of combinations based off their winning percentages from their 2025 and 2026 seasons. Portland and Toronto are based off just their 2026 records.

Houston and Toronto have the same winning percentage and the best odds at the No. 1 pick: 32.9%.

Due to tiebreaker (regular season head-to-head record), Houston cannot fall further than the No. 3 pick. Toronto is guaranteed at least the No. 4 pick.

The Mystics traded with the Chicago Sky and have the third best odds for the No. 1 pick (16.1%). Seattle (9.3%) and Portland (5.2%) follow and the Sparks round out the list. Due to the Kelsey Plum trade, the Sparks have their own winning percentage (2.4%) and they also have acquired the Mercury’s (1.2%).

Then, 14 balls are mixed and drawn to form a four-digit combination. The team that has that combination will get the No. 1 Pick in the 2027 Draft. The process is repeated for the No. 2 pick.

Then, the team with the worst cumulative winning percentage will get the No. 3 pick, the next worse the No. 4 and so on until the No. 7 pick is chosen.

The 2027 WNBA Draft is slated for April 12, 2027.
