San Diego/Scottsdale – Split between two tournaments this week, one Husky duo is moving on in doubles at the SoCal Intercollegiates in San Diego and one Husky advances in singles at the ITA West Sectional Championships in Scottsdale.

The Huskies struggled to find their footing in singles at the SoCal Intercollegiates, with all five competitors falling in their respective matches. Hyeonseok Seo came closest to securing a victory, pushing his match against UC Santa Barbara’s Vicente Freda to three sets. After dropping the opening set 1-6, Seo battled back to claim the second set in a 7-6 tiebreaker before ultimately falling 6-7 in the third set.

In doubles, one Washington duo advanced to the quarterfinals. Nikola Plavsic and Luis Carvalho teamed up for the first time this fall, defeating USC’s Sklar Phillips and Pablo Robledo Hoyos, 7-5, to move on.

Meanwhile, in Arizona, Soham Purohit opened the ITA West Sectional Championships with a straight-set victory. Purohit defeated sixth-seeded Manvydas Balciunas of San Diego, 6-4, 6-4, to advance to the round of 16. He continues his pursuit of a spot in the NCAA Singles Championship with his next match at sectionals.
