QUICK KICKS
Sooner or Later
Georgia opens its 25th appearance at the SEC Soccer Tournament with its second matchup against Oklahoma this season. The Sooners topped the Bulldogs, 3-1, in their previous meeting on Sept. 18 in Athens. After Emma Pettersen scored in the first half, Oklahoma scored three times in 17 minutes in the second half to come away with the victory. Of note, Georgia goalkeeper Jordan Brown did not play in the first meeting, due to a red card received against Vanderbilt the week prior.

Georgia and Oklahoma have only faced off twice, with both meetings coming in the past two seasons as SEC colleagues and each team winning on the other’s home field. For Georgia head coach Keidane McAlpine, this is his fifth all-time meeting with Oklahoma head coach Matt Mott, who he replaced as an Auburn assistant in 2006. Mott’s Ole Miss squad advanced past McAlpine’s USC team in the spring 2021 NCAA Tournament, while McAlpine holds a 2-1 advantage while helming the Bulldogs.

Back to the Beach
Georgia’s appearance at the SEC Tournament marks its eighth-consecutive trip to the postseason event, extending a program record streak. Overall, the Bulldogs are 15-21-5 all-time in the tournament with one title in 2023 and 10 semifinal appearances. The Bulldogs are also 3-2 in penalty kick shootouts at tournament, including a 5-4 win last season in the quarterfinals against Kentucky. Under Keidane McAlpine, Georgia has advanced at least one round in all four prior tournament appearances.

O Captain! Our Captains!
Both of Georgia’s captains came through in the clutch last Sunday to help the Bulldogs secure the No. 10 seed for the SEC Tournament. Staude sailed an equalizer into the top left corner of the net in the 86th minute to secure a 1-1 draw at Florida. Staude, who recently eclipsed the 6,000-minute mark as a Bulldog, has made 49 consecutive starts for the team and is the active career leader in appearances, starts, points, goals, assists, shots, and minutes. With one more start Sunday, Staude will enter the program top 10 rankings in caps with 80.

In net, Jordan Brown tallied five saves and a scoreless second half to help the Bulldogs earn the draw. Brown, who has been named twice to the SEC All-Tournament Team, currently ranks third all-time in program history in GAA (1.00) and shutouts (24), as well as fourth in wins (31) and seventh in saves (274).

Roster Connections
Georgia and Oklahoma carry several roster connections into Friday’s match. Bulldog freshman defender Lilly Osifodunrin was teammates with Sooner freshmen Brenna Hallam and Avery Brand on the Real Colorado club team that won the 2025 ECNL U17 national championship. Oklahoma defender Sadie Sterbenz and Georgia forward Emma Pettersen were teammates for three seasons at Middle Tennessee (2023-25), with both players earning All-Conference USA honors last year. In another set of former teammates, OU reserve goalkeeper Addison Tauscher joined Georgia defender Assa Kante on the 2024 Big 12 champion Kansas Jayhawks. Finally, Sooner assistant coach Warren Russ was a member of the UGA coaching staff for its first five seasons (1995-99).

If Georgia advances, it will face second-seeded South Carolina (No. 12/No. 15) in the SEC Tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 12:30 p.m. EST on SEC Network. The Gamecocks bested the Bulldogs, 2-1, in their previous matchup on Oct. 23 in Columbia.
