Dan Lanning gave props to his Buckeyes adversary after a huge win at the Horseshoe in Columbus, Ohio in Week 10.

Coach Ryan Day‘s Ohio State Buckeyes started off on the right foot against the Oregon Ducks in Columbus, Ohio in Week 10 action, but wound up falling by a score of 41-28. Buckeyes superstar Jeremiah Smith’s career with the Buckeyes got a grim prognostication as fans wondered whether their team’s College Football Playoff hopes were over.

Oregon coach Dan Lanning was interviewed after the game and gave words of respect to Day and his program following the huge Ducks win.

“Coach Day is an outstanding coach…That was me, that was me two weeks ago (losing), like you guys felt that in our building, and it’s hard, really to overcome…You just try harder and harder to fix things and you can’t fix everything.

“His teams are really hard to beat, we were on the other end of a butt-whooping like this in the Rose Bowl…We had some learning pains…And figured out, how to we become the kinda team we want to be, and we saw glimpses of that tonight.”

Lanning’s comments won’t be much consolation to an Ohio State team that has watched its season disintegrate after the loss of Sayin and the insertion of maligned freshman Luke Fahey at quarterback. Fahey passed for 360 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, but it wasn’t enough as Oregon pulled out all the stops including a direct snap to Jamari Johnson, the team’s star tight end, that resulted in a touchdown.

Day and his supporters are going through hard times right now, but there’s plenty to like as Ohio State continues moving forward. Smith, Fahey and the Buckeyes will be a tough game for anyone the rest of the way, but their championship dreams seem to be on life support.
