Tennessee Titans Ryan Tannehill’s trade stock is rising before free agency

If we get a 2nd, 4th, and his cap hit off the books that wouldn’t be the worst return for a QB slated to be here for just one more season, actually. Then go get the rookie QB we’re targeting, and use that extra 2nd for an interior OL or WR. It’s not the worst plan.
If the Jets can’t get ARod, then they could very well go after Tannehill since they only need consistently decent QB play to become contenders.
If we can get a 2nd + assets that’d be great for our future. Get someone like Josh Downs in the 2nd while trading up for Stroud sets us up really nicely with how much cap we are projected to have next year (I think it’s upwards of $140 million).
I am curious about this and I see the argument, but I’m not convinced the Titans would be able to get enough compensation to make trading Tanny worth it to them, unless they have a really clear path to another, clearly better QB option (unlikely) or are willing to openly tank with Willis or Dobbs for a year and so would accept pretty much anything (even more unlikely IMO).
As the article sets out, almost all of the QB-needy teams have a path to better options than Tanny, leaving only a couple of teams who might conceivably be interested (it suggests the Buccs and the Falcons). What it doesn’t take account of is other QB options, e.g. Garoppalo.
Tannehill’s contract may be an asset in that it’s now probably a bit below the market rate for a QB of his calibre and I do think he’s *better* that Jimmy G, but is he so much better that QB-needy team would be willing to give up draft picks to get him? The article suggests a second and a fourth, which seems fair for a starting QB in a vacuum but not so much, I think, when there are only one or two teams who might *potentially* be interested, when those teams have other comparable options.
Also, I can’t claim to be familiar with the Falcons’ position but I just can’t see Arthur Smith, going into his third year without any real success and really needing to prove himself to ownership, risking his career on a *second* retread Titans QB in a row. I might be wrong, though.
Maybe teams looking for a bridge QB after drafting someone will be enough to drive up some demand, we’ll have to see.
Seeing what Daniel Jones got makes Ryan’s deal look appealing for a team looking for a cheaper QB that is experienced.
Oh god anytime i see something written by Lomas, it kills my belief in it.
He’s going to go to Atlanta and everyone’s going to realize the primary reason he regressed was Todd Downing’s excuse for an offense.

I’m torn here. I hate that we’re in the position that trading our second best QB in Titans history, and 3rd best in our entire history is in question but the roster needs too much work to truly compete with him barring Ran restructuring a ton of money and going all out in FA. Which I am never a fan of.
Tannehill going needs to pair with Henry and Byard going. Trading Tannehill is embracing the rebuild and those two are too old to come out the other side. I’d argue if you’re embracing the rebuild trading Landry, Simmons and Hooker is always the move as they’re worth more in capital than they’re going to be at the end of their peak on the other end of the rebuild. It won’t be a one year project, probably 3 if they do it right.
I love what Tanny did for us.. but it’s time to send Tanny packing.. I’ve seen enough to move on from him. Let’s see what we got in Malik.
This list of QB needy teams is missing a glaring one: Washington.
That’s the team to keep an eye on.
If we trade Tanny 100% the plan will be to draft in 2024.
I could see them going after Baker or Jimmy G potentially to fill the gap on a short deal. Willis will never get the starting job and the hype surrounding Dobbs far outpaces his potential. Might be a trade for a starter and Dobbs and Willis as back ups in that order.
Getting say, Baker would keep (some) talent under center and he is asking for pennies on the dollar if I read correctly. Like 8 million a year.
But watch we will end up with like Darnold…

Ah a classic lomas article. Says Tannehill trade stock is rising then spends the entire article discussing how no one except maybe Atlanta will trade for him.
Can we get a lomas tag so we know to avoid these articles?

Am I crazy for wanting to take a chance on Sam Darnold? Dude is 25 years old and spotrac.com has him getting ~$6m a year

Tannehill will play for Tennessee no doubt in my mind. I believe he has the accuracy and the poise to win a SB.
If we trade Tannehill we should be using whatever draft capital we gain to move up to one.
Ran cartoon had 3 qbs on his roster. All 3 played and all 3 crushed. He can find talent but can he find them that won’t get hurt. Him getting rid of tanny or in talks. I’m not worried they won’t find a good QB. Lamar is on market.
