I accept his apology, and I’ll give him a pass since it’s his first slip up on-air. That said, my sister had a interesting point in a discussion we had earlier today when she said that this was quite an unusual gaffe, and she was wondering if these slip ups might be an indicator of using that word sometimes outside the workplace. As a Black person, I have never used the hard-R in conversation except in a few instances when I quoted what someone said, and I have never slipped up and said it when saying something close to it like “Negro” or whatever.
Others have been saying this and I’ll repeat it here. I imagine if you’re an MLB broadcaster the vast majority of the time you’re using the expression “Major League” whenever you’re saying “_______ League” anything. Combine this with the fact that he was referring to the Negro League and you mix Negro and Major together and you get the n-word. Really really REALLY unfortunate slip-up and I believe it was an honest mistake.
Some of us have been listening to him for decades and he’s been such a classy professional guy – a true constant in A’s baseball. After so much bullshit we’ve been through in the past two years – with losing our best guys, losing Ray, and potentially losing the team to Las Vegas, I would really hate to lose Kuip too. Even if the A’s do move and we lose Kuip anyway, I still want him around as long as possible.
My heart can only take so much.
Kuip has been a true gentleman for years. He obviously did not intend to say what came out. I donât believe he has an ounce of racism. Seeing the Kuiper family on both Aâs and Giants telecasts, you can tell this is a very wholesome family. Guys get called out on a hot mic and thatâs too bad for them, but this was not in his mind or heart.

Yes
I dunno man saw another clip of him saying the “n**** league” another time too, I hope it was also a mistake but for sure it will come up on whatever review they are doing, would not be shocked if he’s let go. Sad to see something like this happen. Link another time he said it: https://twitter.com/_Nai_Roy/status/1654696339366891521?t=NmCvBvjPEvqo5RnBWtasOg&s=19
I think he said it fast and it sounds bad. I hope

Pass
Dude wtf happened here :/
Every black on the planet gets a pass for saying nigger. Every cracker should also get a pass. Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing. F the mob.
Letâs be honest â the only people âoffendedâ are sanctimonious white people.
Black people watch that clip, roll their eyes, & move on to caring about actual issues that face black folks. They will generally defend a good guy like Glen because Christ â why alienate an obvious ally & scare away everyone else over an obvious slip of tongue?
The temperate is WAY too hot & Glen made a silly mistake.
Whatâs the alternative? Why ruin him? Thatâs the message? Yikes.
