I was expecting worse

  1. It’s actually wild how bad that strike to Vladdy was, like it’s not even close. You simply cannot be making that call in the 9th inning of a tie game.

    Luckily ball don’t lie.

  2. This is why our boy Schneids got tossed. I’d be frustrated too. Ramos was all over the damn place all game long. But heck, all’s well that ends well I guess…

  3. I would love to see a stat/graphic of Ump Scorecard vs manager ejections. What’s the average % missed calls that it takes for a manager to get himself ejected? Which managers are getting ejected in games with relatively few missed calls? Is there an effect on missed calls after a manager ejection?

Basically the problem with baseball is there should be more stats I think

  4. I’d be curious about pure # of incorrect calls for/against each team rather than the run weighted total.

  5. That strike on Vlad where John got tossed may have been the worst call I’ve ever seen. It was bad. REALLY bad.

  6. I dont mind if ump gives a little outside edge but missing inside. No hitter is gonna swing on too far inside.

  7. Not accounted for in these scorecards is that the batter, knowing the zone is dogshit, will need to chase balls off the plate. Those swings will either generate whiffs or weak contact and will save the ump from having to make more borderline calls.

  8. That called strike by Charlie Ramos was indeed terrible.

    Angel Hernandez: “Hold my beer.”

I get that umpires blow calls behind the plate from time to time. I’m sure they know it as well. But when you miss as badly as Ramos did on that called strike against Vladdy you have to be prepared to take a little heat from the dugout. I think what made the whole thing even worse was that he was pretty damn quick to toss Schneider.

  9. From the comment section. @robblanchard

Updated this morning, here’s the list of the top ten ‘favored by umpires’ teams in MLB. As usual, the New York teams head the list. From the AL East, Tampa Bay & Toronto are in the bottom 4 of ‘most favored’.
The implementation of robo-umps is primordial to keep things fair.
