lmfaoooo spo called her a fucking idiot basically
Jeff Green shuts down the same question too lmao.
Erik is so eloquent and well spoken
He should’ve played 2-3 zone with the reporters.
“That’s the untrained eye that says something like that.”
That’s gold.
Did the Heat win or did the Nuggets lose ass question

lmao absolutely bodied ramona shelburne. i get it with annoying questions but this one seemed relatively tame, especially considering she prefaced it with “this is probably oversimplifying things…”
As diplomatic as insult can get
Reporters getting challenged is one of my favourite things
Of course it’s Ramona Shelburne lmfao
“Untrained eye” >>>> “Casual”
“That’s the untrained eye that says something like that”
This might be the most polite yet most insulting way to tell someone they don’t know ball
the question isn’t even that bad
Seemed like he jumped the gun there to me
Just called all the armchair analysts here dumbasses

It’s clearly just fluff politics.
It’s glaringly clear that the heat pivoted from doubling jokic to him being a score first guy.
And jokic is a great scorer, but the team functions a lot better when he doesn’t have 4 assists and 5 turnovers
In MMA it would be a 10-7 round for Spoelstra. Nobody will be asking him this question in the future.
The best part is him saying
>we try to control what we can do
And they’ve done that very well to the tune of stealing homecourt.
They just keep running their sets, play zone like madmen.
I do not know more about basketball than Spo but I’d say there’s at least some merit to the idea that having Jokic primarily look to score rather than play-make is a good strategy.
You obviously have the 53 point game he had against Phoenix in a losing effort but beyond that when he isn’t getting guys involved Denver doesn’t really have anybody that can reliably create a shot for themselves outside of Murray.
Now the “untrained eye” part comes in when you oversimplify how easy it is to do that, because the vast majority of the time Jokic is a scorer AND a playmaker. Could be that next game Miami tries its damndest to have Jokic isolate and game plans for him to become a scorer and he still drops 39/12/14 because he is the best player in the world. It’s not that easy.
Of course this would be Ramona Shelburne
“Untrained Eye” is elite stuff right there
Ryen Russillo is gonna love this one
Didn’t draymond green popularize this “make jokic a passer or scorer” thing? At the very least, talk about it certainly got loud ever since his lakers nuggets podcast.
That makes dray an ‘untrained eye’ according to spo lmao.
“Fuck you and your ESPN narratives” – Spo
tbf to Ramona, she prefaced the statement by saying “it might be oversimplifying it”. It seems she just wanted a statement on what they did to limit Jokic’s passing.
Spoelstra totally dissed her lol, but I think its also calculated—by shutting it down he didn’t need to discuss gameplan, and he can simply credit Jokic, and not poke the bear.
Lmao spo went after the entire nba podcasting community calling them clowns basically. That’s been their “analysis” non stop
I hope untrained eye catches on
Best coach of our generation man
He can deflect the question all he wants, but everyone in that Miami locker room knows that was their gameplan tonight.
“best player on the planet two seasons in a row”
Sorry Embiid, Spo’s word is final
“Untrained eye” = r/nba catching strays
Translation: “yes we tried to make him a scorer but I’ve done this too long to say anything that could be construed as bulletin board material”
I love Spo but respectfully he didn’t say why it’s ridiculous outside of he’s amazing at basketball lol.
It’s been a pretty strong correlation between Jokic having 20-30 with 10+ assists and his team winning, vs him having 40+ with less than 10 assists and his team losing.
But I’m sure someone will just respond with “You’re gonna tell the NBA COACH he’s WRONG?? Reeeeee” without, again, explaining anything lol.
Obviously there’s no “flip” Miami can switch on to just decide “Hey, Jokic is ONLY gonna score today. Got it?!” to arguably the greatest offensive player oat, but you obviously give yourself a much better chance to win when you don’t double him and you stay disciplined on off-ball movement to get him to look to score more….
Especially with this Denver team, who doesn’t have really any reliable off the dribble creators outside of Jokic and Murray.
Jokic only turns into a scorer when one of the following happens:
1. It’s the right basketball play
2. Teammates aren’t hitting shots
3. Nuggets are losing
4. Somebody pissed him off
That’s it. He always makes the right plays from a basketball standpoint.
Spo is a dick for that one lol tf
Maybe he took the question the wrong way but if Jokic is getting 50 pts and 5 assist its much better than 20 and 20…
