Steve Cohen ‘not going to blow up’, make big changes over troubling Mets start: ‘Frustrated too’

Of course he isn’t. It took over a year to fill the spots and they still haven’t hired a POBO. What the team needs more than anything is consistency in the leadership – not more vacancies filled by inexperienced placeholders.
Plus firing people mid season after a 101 win year will just send the message to everyone that the Mets are not a place to work if you want job stability. First sign of a struggle and you’re fired. Who cares about contracts! Cohen wants you to be perfect all the time or you’re out! No one worthwhile would every work for an organization like that.
The entire article is a Q+A with Steve. I strongly encourage people to read the entire thing. He expresses his frustration about mental errors, the pitching staff, empathizes with the fans, and explains his philosophy behind his decision-making.
This roster is frustrating because it’s a quick fix to the bigger problem which is that the Mets haven’t done well in drafting and player development. Other than a few guys this roster is completely made up of players from outside the organization. Steve has said multiple times that he won’t give up prospects and is willing to spend to maintain a talented roster until the farm system is improved. Which is great if they develop talent, but there aren’t many signs of that right now outside of a few guys.
Good on Steve. Happy we have ownership that won’t give a knee jerk reaction, even with the wallet to do so
Sounds to me like Steve is getting hustled. Eppler and Buck must be great salesmen. Steve is making a crucial mistake.
Cohen is right. No point in going crazy and firing people because as he says what happens next? Too late to implement real change In the middle of the mess. That needed to be done in the off-season.
Here’s the real problem we needed another bat did we get It? No. Cohen and Eppler identified with the “something else” statement chasing Correa. We needed more relievers like Chafin amongst others. Did we get it? No. We bet on a boatload of fringes arms that have failed catastrophically. These are primarily off-season issues. Eppler built this roster. You can try to fix it now but prices are VERY high.
In fairness, last year was tough because much of the work was resigning our own players (Nimmo, McNeil) and ultimately replacing deGrom Bassitt and Walker. However, the Mets never filled the holes they needed to fill. Period. Here we are.
Cohen might not be looking to make changes now but next offseason could be very interesting.
Not going to lie, that was a pretty fantastic response. It’s definitely awesome and almost bizarre to have an owner that cares 😂
And I’m not going to watch this miserable team. So fair is fair.
Get rid of Eppler and go after Epstein.
Where’s the silver lining they’re hanging on? Pitching staff is old and/or isn’t very good. How is that going to be fixed without major moves?
Yeah, but when can we start calling this a bad start ? Almost half way through the season.
