[Heyman] Opposing team that recently engaged on Josh Hader suggested the Padres are pricing him high enough to believe the star closer is almost surely staying. The unpredictable Padres aren’t saying officially.

  1. If Preller was to trade any big names away, it should be Hader. But honestly, if the return isn’t fantastic why not just let it ride?

  2. If we’re planning on competing this year at all still, which why shouldn’t we, then having the best reliever in the league at the back of your pen isn’t worth trading for a couple prospects

  3. It should take a big return to get him. Keep that price high. I just hope someone pays it.

I don’t think this team is far. I do think it’s a few young controllable top tier players away though that we do not have in our system. We badly need to get 1B/OF/DH long term controlable high ceiling bats. We aren’t going to get those without acquiring more talent.

  4. Makes sense, they don’t want to trade him but if you want him you will have to pay dearly.

  5. good. snell and hader should be prohibatively expensive. if someone wants to buy them, make it hurt like hell.

  6. Lets go boys we can’t go out and complain when they don’t trade m, we ride this wave and lets go to the playoffs baby anything can happen come playoff.

  7. Why not just sign him? Seems like the only thing people talk about is trading him away I like Josh a lot on the team

  8. I don’t want to see hader leave, but it would be nice to get something for him. I doubt he resigns. He’s a little unsteady lately and I’d love a closer with a more stamina. Maybe two innings if needed?

  9. Could also be based on what team it was that called. AZ acquired a closer earlier and if they called to kick the tires on Hader before it, I would fully expect Preller to require more from a team in the division/playoff hunt.

  10. Hader is already payed close, or above the market. No reason to not have him for the next 5-6 years

  11. All the contenders who would want Hader are going to be competition next year and probably for the near future.

Make them hurt themselves to rent him.
