Not sure if this has already been posted, but I found this interesting, to say the least. Wish more perspectives like this would come out for the public to read. Also, would love to hear more from the currently rostered players on this – maybe something in depth about how each of them prepare each day. They don’t need to throw anyone under the bus, simply mentioning which tools they ARE provided day in and day out would shed enough light on what is lacking. But that’s just wishful thinking. I’m tired of the FO not being held accountable by the media, their own players, or us fans on this topic.

interesting read but DANG do so many on this sub attack pieces like this, as if we were a double agent for the dodgers or something. WE ALL WANT THE TEAM to do better, but these “all stars” we keep getting, became all stars because the former gave then the necessary tools, equipement and data to suceed. I swear half the time these guys are swinging blindly or throwing blind to get it past someone. the game of baseball has changed and we are VERY slow to catch up. shows why we get lucky and score and destroy a team 20-0 but lose the rest of the week 2-1. melvin and soto both said similair things last year. Pure talent might win in like basketball or football. not baseball, skill here will only go so far, take our series against the royals or nats and soon upcoming series against the A’s. Unless Prellar actually swallows pride or Siedler fires Prellar we will remain a .500 or sub .500 team
I can’t believe I actually clicked the link.
I can only blame myself.
I don’t find anonymous quotes that interesting, actually.
It’s cal quantril I can feel it
The original article from the Big Lead linked here was pretty decent, and discussed on Ben and Woods with the author.
The East Village Times on the other hand…
There’s one source and it’s a jilted player that got traded..
The fact that we hired and fired Dave Cameron from FanGraphs after only 3 seasons should tell you a lot. Cameron is one of the most respected analysts in the sport and not listen to his opinion is just asinine
Wait don’t all players that get traded or let go want to beat the team that they used to play for?
This has Ryan Weathers all over it.

Maybe his mom spoke for him during the interview.
CJ.
Parts of the article like the quote below show that this is just filler garbage journalism. If this were to be true, then they would have the same issues last year. They’ve spent more money and made more of an effort in 2023 than 2022 and were significantly worse in one-run games and extra-inning games.
People can pick apart what went wrong, but clearly if the big contracts performed even 80% of what they should have, then this team would have kicked ass. Every other aspect of the teams ranged from great to good enough.
“Shockingly, the Padres appear to be vastly behind other organizations in player development, advanced scouting, and analytics. Hearing this makes sense, as the Padres have struggled this year in one-run games and have failed to win an extra-inning game all season long.”
This link is just regurgitating a piece from The Big Lead here: [https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/san-diego-padres-aj-preller-change-01h8xebnfygh](https://www.thebiglead.com/posts/san-diego-padres-aj-preller-change-01h8xebnfygh)
I think it has been known for a while when it comes to this franchise investing in player development, analytics, etc. that the Padres are cheap as fuck in these areas. We’re using a horse and a carriage and other teams like the Dodgers have a spaceship.
Preller can sign all-stars, but even all-stars need continued development and good analytics to support them.
