Seriously, how is it possible to fail this many times? Anyone who was born in 1992 or after has never seen a Bears team where they compete with the Packers consistently.

It is absolutely despicable. Eberflus is an old fashioned guy. An “accountability” guy. Well Flus, it’s time to take some accountability. That was the most heinous coaching job I might have ever seen, up there with some of Nagy’s performances.

Offense doesn’t throw the ball more than 5 yards down the field. Do they not trust Fields? If so, WHY NOT KEEP THE NUMBER ONE PICK AND TAKE YOUNG. Jacob Infante on Twitter phrased the Fields situation perfectly, he is not the main issue, but he doesn’t move the needle to the point *when* we have a top pick, we have to look at other options. I feel like we would know if he’s a good QB or not, Joe Burrow has been able to succeed in his career with a mediocre oline. I want Fields to succeed man but right now he’s looking like a more athletic Mitch. Defense showed some flashes but for the most part was horrible.

It looked like a lot of those guys were just out there for the paycheck… it’s week 1. I don’t even know where you go from here.

  1. Idk maybe hiring a defensive minded head coach when you have arguably one of the most athletic players in the league at the QB position was a bad idea. But what do I know.

  2. > Joe Burrow has been able to succeed in his career with a mediocre oline.

This is where a lot of disconnect is. Our O line is nowhere near mediocre.

  3. As much as I think it was a shitshow at every level of the organization yesterday, I can’t not notice that Fields is still wayyyy too hesitant in the pocket. He’s seemingly waiting for big windows to open up, and that just doesn’t happen regularly in the NFL. (Unless, of course, you’re facing our defense – which is maybe why Fields is expecting that because he practices against them so often).

  4. I guarantee you that, if Fields was on the opposite sideline yesterday, his numbers would have been the same as Love’s, if not better. He’s got no o line and a pathetic coaching staff. I agree that if this is the performance for the remainder of the year we’ll have to move on. There will also be a boatload of teams ready to take bring Fields onboard and watching him blossom elsewhere is going to hurt more than yesterdays game.

  5. This team will never be anything until Virginia McCaskey dies and the team is sold to someone who cares about the product on the field. Until she dies, they will continue operating like it is 1950 and have some out of touch idiot like Bill Polian make the hiring decisions.

  6. This is literally the exact thing people were saying about Mitch at the time- Not the main issue but still a big issue. I wonder when it’s going to hit everybody in the face?

  7. I was born in ‘99. I have never REALLY seen a Bears team absolutely dominate the Packers for a full season.

Hate me, but I DO NOT CARE about the ‘85 bears. I know they were THE football team. But they weren’t MY football team.

MY football team is disappointing, and when the floor appears to have already been met, they find a way to shovel themselves only deeper.

I genuinely do not even know if ownership is the problem, my optimistic side thinks they want to win as much as we do. Could it be Poles/ Flus? Possibly, it certainly seems like this team was not prepared to take on the Packers and that for sure isn’t the ownerships job.

  8. Fields didn’t look great, not all his fault I suppose but Flus is not it either, man. I imagine it’ll be like any other year, though. Where we suffer with a terrible coaching staff the whole season, because “look who they have to play with”.

  9. He was 2/2 with a TD on throws +20 yards. He was also an elite deep thrower last year with worse talent.

I don’t care who the FO and staff trust, they need to fucking get it together.

Burrow has Chase, Higgins, and isn’t stuck with Getsy. People came in with too high expectations.

  10. I disagree with this take for 2 reasons:

-Lovie did well against the Packers the first half of his tenure and I was surprised he ended his career with 8-11 record vs Packers. The rest of the time has been awful:(

-If the first game is indicative of the season, then we are much better off for the future having traded the first overall pick. DJ Moore will be valuable for a new QB. The Panthers look to give the bears a high pick this year. They are likely to be able to get a top 2 QB prospect and an additional elite offensive talent to build the team around.

  11. I think the staff thinks they did their job yesterday. They’ll be blaming Fields this morning. They kept running Moore on a deep corner and was “open” on it. Problem is he wasn’t open enough for Fields to be comfortable with the throw and they made ZERO ADJUSTMENT. I would’ve expected Fields to start changing the plays honestly, it’s like the staff wanted him to just beat his head into a wall until it worked.
Same on defense. They ran 2 crosses at our LBs all day, they picked up the shallow crosser and left the deep one. It was open all day, whenever GB wanted it.

  12. If I owned the team there would be an ultimatum today for every coaches job. Get better by next game or get fired. What an absolute joke we are as a franchise. They had no plan yesterday. None. I can’t believe we’re going to get another season of garbage. I have to seriously reevaluate my allegiance to this team.

  13. I was cautiously optimistic this offseason and this game eroded a LOT of optimism. The Fields issue is glaring. He did NOT improve in the offseason. Why would we believe he will improve IN season. Too many times I was shouting, “Throw the ball” at the TV yesterday. You now have a legit #1 WR and Mooney as your #2. Someone’s open. Let it rip! And how many balls beyond 10 yards? 4? Out of 37 attempts or whatever it was? Fucking horrible.

  14. Here’s maybe an odd opinion. I think Fields best throw yesterday was the one to Kmet in the end zone that drilled the defenders helmet. It was anticipatory and on target but maybe a little higher would have been ideal due to the size advantage. That cornerback hugged Kmet hard to decelerate and stay in front of him or it was a tuddy.

  15. This was awful… the WORST CASE SCENARIO ! Total embarrassment. Our running back is our leading receiver and our Qb is our leading rusher??? Is this the 1940s. I am embarrassed to be a season ticket holder.

Gloating Packers fans make me sick…

  16. Fields is not it. People get angry when you say that because they WANT so badly for him to be it.

Flus and his staff are not it. Poles is not it. Yesterday was so awful that it’s hard to even pinpoint which of the 3 if any are the BIGGEST problem, hopefully that sorts itself out over the rest of the year. You’re stuck with Fields for now and maybe he’ll prove us wrong over the next 16 games but unless he makes some DRASTIC turnaround and proves without a shadow of a doubt he’s your franchise guy then Caleb Williams simply looks too goddamn good to not cut your losses and do what you can to get him. This “rebuild” is already too far along to waste anymore time with a QB who refuses to throw the ball on time. The offensive line is not good but no offensive line is gonna look great when the QB just will not for the life of him get rid of the ball! Rude awakening after spending all camp against the Bears pass rush, most of your opponents aren’t gonna give you 10 seconds in the pocket to wait until your receivers are WIDE OPEN.

  17. If Fields had Andy Reid as head coach he’d probably be a bonafide superstar by now. This organization is just rotten from top to bottom. The process that yielded Flus and Poles was flawed at the time and we all knew it. It will never change until the McCaskeys are out of the picture.

  18. It’s not that a single lose to start the year ended the season, but it’s how spectacularly the lose was in all aspects. Fields regressed, the defense looked worse, offensive line looks worse, Chase Claypool doesn’t care about football anymore, discipline lacking in all phases…

This is a burn in all down and start over type of game.
