I’m not able to make it to the game tonight so I thought it would interesting to share what the ball/strike challenge system looks like in action (apologies on the blurry 2nd pic).
On a 3-2 count, Bigbie took a close pitch and the umpire called ball four. The Desert Dogs challenged the call but the umpire’s judgement was confirmed on the outfield scoreboard. All-in-all, the challenge and video review took less than 30 seconds.
Each team gets up to three unsuccessful offensive and three defensive challenges each. Teams get unlimited successful challenges until they use up their three unsuccessful challenges.
Impressively, last night’s umpire was on point – both teams lost every challenge (Rafters twice and I believe the Desert Dogs used all six).
