Colts’ Pittman laments 2-catch game: ‘Maybe I’m not a big part’ of offense

Nice, cave to JT and now every player is gonna start doing this shit. Awesome.
Some quotes from the article worth mentioning:
‘“They just didn’t target me today, for whatever reason. Maybe I’m not a big part of the offense,” Pittman said postgame, according to Nate Atkins of the Indianapolis Star.
Pittman only managed two receptions on five targets in the defeat. However, he was able to break free for a 75-yard touchdown to give the Colts a 38-33 lead with 5:38 remaining.
“When I do get the ball, I feel like I always do something with it,” he said. “Just know that I’m viable to break off a big one in any situation versus any team. I’m just trying to show the coaches that I’m out there, too.’”
I understand bros tryna get a contract extension, but I think it’s fair to say he’s gotta try and be a team player and understand that he’s not always gonna get the call, especially with Josh Downs breaking out.
I mean, it seems like 5 targets is pretty on par for him
I think he’s just emotionally overreacting here to a 1) painful loss which by almost unanimous opinion should have been a win and 2) seeing low targets in said game.
Not sure there’s that much to this because he’s literally never complained like this before.
Maybe he would get more targets if he didn’t drop a wide open touchdown pass.
Somebody’s jealous of Josh Downs
He’s gotten a bunch of targets in games this year. But I guess all WR gotta have their diva moment at some point.
The main issue is that he doesn’t really get a lot of separation against the top defensive back of the opposing team. He’s not a true #1 receiver that demands safety help over the top.
I think he’s a fantastic #2. He’s Reggie Wayne, but you won’t really see that level of production until we get our Marvin Harrison on the field.
WR wants the ball, water is wet.
But can we please go one week without some kind of drama?
What is he on about? Dude had 14 targets against the jags. And AVERAGES 9 a game!
Hard to get targets when you’re a “contested catch guy”. You need to be a “gets wide open guy”. If you can’t get wide open with speed, you better do it with double moves and route running. Any QB is going to target the open receiver first, rather than risk an INT on a “contested catch”.
Pittman disappears for the first 3 quarters of every game, shows up in the 4th, wants to be called WR1. WR1’s don’t disappear consistently for 3 quarters every game.
You’re not a focal point of the offense because you can’t get open. Maybe work on that.
I wouldn’t look too deeply into this. It was a hard fought game that we should’ve won but didn’t due to circumstances we couldn’t control. MPJ is probably speaking with emotion right now thinking of scenarios on if he had gotten the ball one more time.
Browns defense funnels targets to the slot. Their boundary CBs are both really good and they have an elite pass rush in combination. Isn’t a surprise Pittman didnt get much action.
Funny he says that:
Michael Pittman is averaging 11 targets in the four games Gardner Minshew has played at least 30 snaps.
He has 50% of the Colts RPO targets so far this season.
Michael Pittman caught 9-of-14 targets for 109 yards last week, giving him double-digit targets in four of six games this season. His 43 first-read targets are good for 10th in the league, while his 28.3% target share ranks 11th among qualified wide receivers. Pittman remains the focal point of this passing attack, especially with how RPO-centric the Colts have been under Shane Steichen. The Colts are running RPOs 15.4% of the time, the highest rate in the league, while Pittman has accounted for 50% of the team’s targets off the play type. When they run an RPO and throw the football, odds are it is going to Pittman. He has also been productive with Minshew under center. In fact, Pittman is averaging 11 targets in the four games Minshew has played at least 30 snaps this season. He remains a volume-based WR2.
He makes huge plays and has been 90% reliable. He will be but I think they’re trying to get their moneys worth out of JT. Plus Minshews turnovers have been excessive
I think he’s just upset over a loss. He leads the team in targets and opposing defenses are honing in on him.
Worthless drama. WR always wants the ball? Call me shocked. The option worked twice in the red zone. That’s the area I’d call on for the contested catch guy.
That’s why he’s not a great WR1. He’s not all gas. He catches it 1 on 1 but you gotta get open all the time if you want more targets. Especially when you’re averaging over 10 targets a game.
He’s on track to have the most receptions and yards in a season in his career…
IMO i think hes being under utilizing. Then again, He’s usually doubled teamed too.
I’m not sure what Pittman is on about here. He still had 5 targets which was second on the team. Our offense is limited with Minshew so it’s going to be hard for anyone to showcase their best right now. Hopefully this is just a not very well thought out statement after a tough loss.
I think someone’s butthurt that Downs has become WR1.
This is the most over dramatic shit ever lol
I mean, QB play is definitely an issue for the last 2 losses. Minshew has 4 picks and 4 fumbles in the last 2 weeks. I don’t necessarily think that more targets for Pittman would’ve changed the outcome, but he’s rightfully frustrated. We all are.
I would love to hear Alex Pierce say the same thing, the kid has exceptional size speed and smarts. Gardner is the real problem right now, he’s a 20 yard guy, that’s what NFL GM’s call him. There’s no deep threat, and teams are cheating a man up playing cover 1 on us.
So…about his extension.
Meanwhile, JT holds put and breaks the bank.
Dude was getting locked down by Ward the whole game! He made those 2 catches when Ward left the game
Guys do you remember AJ Brown complaining? And see how it went from there? Stay positive.
