Rec team in the U.K. (I think they’re rec as they’re not in the top league). Have mandated neck guards. I’ve seen in many threads today a lot of people buying neck guards as a result of the horrific incident and I hope this sparks change and is a positive impact all round!

Hopefully this is the first of many leagues doing this.
I’m hopeful this leads to improved technology on neck guards (and wrist guards) as well. Concerns over heat retention or comfort are legitimate, but I’m hopeful that we’ll see a high-quality product that addresses those in the immediate future.
I think this is great. But it’s not proactive. It is definitely reactive
Safety measures get compulsory implementation always too late, unfortunately
Honestly thinking of getting one for my son who plays on a 12U travel team…
Would a neck guard have actually protected Johnson in this case? They’re thin pieces of fabric and the skate hit him pretty hard.
I suppose they could help in glancing blows, I haven’t worn a neck guard in about 15 years, but unless technology has improved recently, I don’t think they provide all that much protection
This is the team Petr Cech (ex premier league goalkeeper) plays for. My local team.
Coaching staff?
I think the players should have the right to decide whether or not they want to wear these things. They’re fairly cumbersome and they kind of choke you.
This is great but if the NHL does this i think it would be better
It’s sad that it took a death for things to start changing.
I remember growing up people would chirp you if you wore a neck guard. Imagine being chirped for not wanting to die lol..
Anyone have a link to the most comfortable neck guards? I’m a referee/linesman and debated wearing one for a while. I was mocked for wearing a mouth guard in my university days and stopped wearing it. I’ve taken a puck and a stick to the face, replaced 3 teeth and 4 root canals.
It’s a lot more difficult to replace a carotid artery.
I’m looking around at some neck guards and it looks like the designs/comfort haven’t changed since I was a kid. Bulky and stiff
You’re not even going name the guy who was deliberately kicked twice?
Find a slowed down video. The kicks are plain to see
Ok now do NHL
Are neck guards forbidden? Why do we have to make them mandatory to protect players? Are players not capable of protecting themselves by choosing to wear neck guards?
How about you just don’t let murderers on the ice?
Is really a good one, talking about the fight is more reactive
Would have thought that after Malarchuck players would have wanted mor protection.
