Translation: We don’t want to pay him $11M to not pitch next year, but would be open to paying him some lesser amount the following year if he is available.
I get it and it totally makes sense but I also wouldn’t blame Woody if he told Arnold to kick rocks. Woodruff missing out on $100+ million to be non-tendered just makes me sick for him & his family.
It is tough. It’s really hard to pay someone to not pitch for a whole year. I think this was just an unavoidable bad situation for both sides
Sucks. Small market teams have to be cut-throat to compete regularly.
