This day in history: November 22, 2000 – With the season threatening to unravel, Jim Fassel throws down the gauntlet and says, “This team is going to the playoffs.” The Giants did even better; they went all the way to the Super Bowl.

That was such a great run too. Completely dismantled both the Eagles and an all time Vikings team on the way to the Super Bowl. Both games at home with the most batshit crowds I’ve ever seen at the Meadowlands.
Started with Ron Dixon’s 97yd opening kick return for a TD and concluded with Wellington Mara GOAT celebration speech, completely shitting all over the critics. One of my favorite lines of all time, “Today on this field of painted mud, we’ve proved that we’re the “worst” team to win the NFC Championship.
And now all we get is ” He’s got a knee”
I was 10, and this was my third year as a fan, so it was so incredibly fun watching this run, just proving the naysayers wrong every week, especially living in a community surrounded by Eagles fans. 😅
He always looked so nerdy. Had no clue at the time the guy was a raging party-holic. It was apparently a huge factor in him never getting another head coaching job.
Wild to me that he never got another coaching gig in the nfl.
I remember that speech it was on espn over and over, especially the week of the Super Bowl. Rip coach.
