[Passan] BREAKING: The New York Yankees are acquiring outfielder Alex Verdugo in a trade with the Boston Red Sox for right-handeres Richard Fitts, Greg Weissert and Nicholas Judice, sources familiar with the deal tell ESPN.

    Verdugo could have been a great Red Sox guy but he just didn’t seem to have that extra gear

  12. Cora didn’t seem to like him and fair or not he was always going to be tied to Chaim Bloom and Mookie Betts. You weren’t going to get a ton for him in the final year of his deal and there’s a logjam in the outfield. Fitts is a decent prospect who can help in 2024. It’s a good deal.

  27. This better be a domino to go after a top player like Soto. We trade him to our rival and add more prospects. This team doesn’t need more prospects they need players on the MLB roster. If we wanted prospects you keep Bloom. So adding more to our farm better be a move to work towards filling our MLB with top-end talent through trade

  28. Don’t know enough about all three pitchers to make a judgement, but I have a hard time seeing how these 3 are more valuable than Verdugo (even if he only has 1 year left). He’s a solid 2WAR player, and I don’t think his 9 million was so important to get off the books. We should be well above the first CBT threshold this year, and if we aren’t, that’s a serious problem

  31. This needed to happen. I don’t think his carefree nature and attitude issues mesh well with the Yankess culture though. Verdugo is all about expressing self through his physical appearance, wearing his emotions on his sleeve, showing up when he feels like it, and hustling when he feels like it. I don’t think any of those things will jive in NY. Maybe he’ll get whipped into shape.

    Good luck to him. I always wanted him to succeed while he was here. He just always came up short of the player everyone thought he could of been.

    Unfortunately im going to have to pray on his downfall now, considering he’s now a Yankee. Hopefully he doesn’t take advantage of the little league left field porch too much. Kidding, but not really
