What the title says. This was my first time seeing an NHL game! I moved to Columbus a little over a year ago and have been wanting to check one out for a while. We decided to go to today’s game due to the theme “Hockey is for Everyone” to participate in the statement (cause many of us have never seen on in person) and also in support of the local groups that do amazing work around the community.

What an exciting game! Our whole group really had not been to a game before and I only had some exposure through family who played hockey in Minnesota (and the occasional TV broadcast) We spent the first period trying to figure out icing and when and how it was called. I absolutely loved watching the longer periods of uninterrupted play, so fun to watch all the players move around the ice, check each other, and make some great plays! Luck on our side, the game went into OT and then a shootout, from which CBJ won!

I want to shoutout the fans around us. They were all very engaged throughout the game and very friendly! It’s evident that the people supporting these games are passionate, and it was probably my favorite pro sports experience, even above NFL (Browns) and MLB (Gaurdians/Reds) games I have been to. Even on this subreddit, everyone is so welcoming.

I look forward to more games in the future now that I’m close to Nationwide Arena and the Blue Jackets! You’ve gained a new fan!

  1. Just be careful because we’re not always so welcoming. For example, right now I hate you and the Blue Jackets and, quite frankly, everyone in Ohio right now. But I’ll get over it tomorrow.

Lol, glad you had a good time. Hockey is a great sport but you will definitely run into obnoxious and terrible fans, don’t let that discourage you from enjoying the game.

  2. That’s awesome, I always love hearing about new fan stories. Hockey isn’t the biggest sport out there but it’s an absolute blast and has a great community (for the most part). This takes me back to being a kid and trying to figure out how icing and offside work. Icing used to be whoever touched the puck first as opposed to the hybrid rule they have now. I can only imagine how confusing that must have been to try and figure out.

Welcome to the coolest game on earth!

  3. Nationwide is a great place to see a game. Even the scalpers give you your money back if they sell you a fake ticket.
