[Sam Blum] Ron Washington w/ high praise for Griffin Canning: “He stands out in everything he does. I said, ‘You’re leader, and I want you to lead.’ There might be older guys on the pitching staff, but let me tell you something. They don’t handle their business the way you handle yours.”

Extend Wash now
That’d be funny if he went to every guy on the team with the same speech /s. I believe in Wash and I believe in Canning. Confident attitude on the mound.
Overall clubhouse vibes seem better this year
I think Canning is genuinely grateful he can still pitch in MLB. His injuries likely gave him a lot of time to think about things and how easily it can all evaporate. That matures a person.
And, upon his return, Canning seemed to hold a steady presence last season. Outside of Ohtani, I think he was the most consistent starter for the Angels in 2023.
If the rest of the staff sees Canning in a similar way as Wash describes, leading with that maturity could be a big development for the young arms to model their game.
Perhaps with Wash’s encouragement, Canning will find the aptitude to be that leader.
The Can Man can.
If wash legitimately believes this, I hope it prevents them from signing snell/ Monty.
Also I think the reason the angels haven’t signed any big contracts is because they are earmarking money for Soto- which would be a very Arte thing to do
What the hell were we doing messing around with all those other managers?
