It’s not a huge reveal or anything but very interesting they knew after the cup win. Kinda explains why they had no issue with just a bridge deal and I doubt Sammy G was ever a trade option despite the fans debates over the last few years.
You can keep any player you really want
With this being Byram’s first close-to-healthy season (he still missed a few games but not as many as previous seasons), you can tell that he wanted more opportunities to grow his career. He has huge potential and a very high ceiling if he stays healthy. But with Makar on our team and with the Toews extension, he wasn’t going to be a first liner on the Avs and I think his frustration was showing in his game.
We lost a very talented defenseman in Byram but they wouldn’t have given him up unless it was a worthy return. And the lack of a true 2C had been a sore point for so long. I’m glad we were able to make that trade.
I wish nothing but the best for Bo. I think with this he finally has a chance of getting to his true potential. Thanks for the memories, kid.
Yeah, there was no way Byram could have stayed here long term. He was just more valuable to other teams because a good chunk of his value could come from running a PP1, which he was never going to do here.
But that doesn’t mean the trade was great. He was worth more than what they got IF he can be relatively healthy. Easily worth a cost controlled 2C and a first, in my opinion. They unfortunately just didn’t have the time and luck to build up a track record of health and get full value.
I really wish Byram success in Buffalo, and I hope he can fill that number one d spot. He’s had a rough go of it with the injury bugs, but when he’s on he’s one of the best D in the league right now hands down. I totally get why he wants to go be a number one somewhere. If you don’t shoot for the stars you’ll never reach the sky.
We’ll always have that memory of the time that cop thought he was just some random dude at our cup parade.
I sincerely wish him the best, as long as it’s not at the expense of our best.
I’ve always wondered about the mental aspect of winning a cup after playing only 50 reg season games in the NHL. Still have your whole career ahead of you and you already got what everyone’s chasing. That’s gotta be nuts
As long as Byram can stay healthy, I always felt like he can be a really good top pairing d-man on most other teams. But being stuck behind Makar and Toews he was never going to be that on the Avs which is why this trade made so much sense as trading him for a 2c helped round out the Avs roster.
It makes perfect sense. Sakic and McFarland have a great pulse on the team and I’m sure they understood that extending Toews would make Byram the odd man out.
Plus, you have to look at where Byram was in the Avs lineup this season and think the team wanted more out of him/had bigger plans than him being a 3rd pairing D due to Sammy G’s resurgence.
After all we’re trying to win a cup NOW and not 5 years from now (although hey why not both!). If early returns are predictors of long-term success then both franchise got what they wanted, and I’m totally fine with that.

I just can’t stop feeling that we got fleeced here and the rest of y’all are huffing copium. If he wanted out fair enough but I just don’t see that. Really think we’re going to regret this.
Honestly, I feel very good about this trade. I think it is one where everyone wins. Both teams and both players. I think it is great to see Byram thriving in Buffalo. I think it would be awesome if he get them to the playoffs . I think the Avs are better with Mittelstadt. I Think Casey will thrive with Nate and company to help his game. Everyone wins.

He’s a kid with great upsides, just has to stay healthy. Would wish no less of best luck with him in Buffalo.
Keep in mind they still have Behrens as a prospect and selected a D-man in the first round in Gulyayev.
