Richie Ashburn played for the Phillies from 1948-1859, appearing in 1794 games, hitting .311 and being a 4x all-star. In January 1960 he was traded to the Cubs for John Buzhardt(71 games), Al Dark(55 games), and Jim Woods(34 games).
ONE DAY MORE LET’S GOOOOOOOOO
I had the pleasure of meeting Richie at what turned out to be his last spring training in March of 1997 when I went to a game vs. the Red Sox at the old Jack Russell Stadium. He passed away in September of that year. Thankfully he was alive for the moment the call from Cooperstown came and got experience his induction. What a story teller he was, told me a few , love that old time ball. Still have the baseball card he autographed for me that morning to this day.
