[Inside The Rink] Trois-Rivières Lions survive thanks to a last-minute buyer, Newfoundland Growlers are the team who folds today.

“It appears that the Trois-Rivieres Lions will survive and continue under new ownership, as a last-minute buyer came in to keep the Lions alive. It is unknown who the buyer is at this moment. With Newfoundland out of the picture, the playoff race in the North Division now sits at a three-team race for the final playoff spot between the Maine Mariners, Trois-Rivieres Lions, and Worcester Railers. An official announcement from the league should be coming very shortly.”
Great news! Here’s hoping the new ownership is decent.
Not sure if the last minute buyer is a real thing. I don’t remember the name of the guy, but I know that someone was already trying to buy the Lions for some time and the news last week was just because the paperwork wasn’t completed in time for the league deadline.
Unless that deal failed and someone completely different buy it last minutes, I think this was something in the works for a decently long time.
Sad to see the Growlers fold. Newfoundland deserves pro hockey but the travel must be rough.
