The Rangers have extremely mediocre 5v5 stats which typically does not translate well in the playoffs. Models will never favor us until this is addressed. Personally I don’t care what the models say, but I do hope we get better at 5v5. Either way, 2021-22 proved that we can still make it far without the 5v5 analytics on our side.
Not shocking, as Dom from the Athletic is always doubting the Rangers yet forever glazing Carolina. The playoff teams are way too competitive for Carolina to have a 23% chance.

Eh, projections are pretty meaningless at this stage. The difference between winning in 5 vs 6 vs 7 games in round one alone can have such an impact on round two that predictions beyond round one are largely a crapshoot.
Although they’re not too different from this model, I just prefer looking at the Vegas odds.
Also, not sure why this model doesn’t really like the Avs, maybe it’s the goaltending, but we’ve seen that average goaltending can win in the playoffs.

Stats have “loved” Carolina for years now and Carolina has come short every time. When do the people making these predictions begin to factor actual results into their calculations. Do they get a pass for years of playoff failure and are just given the benefit of the doubt because they shoot a lot of pucks at the net? Guess which teams last year weren’t predicted to go very far, the Golden Knights and Florida Panthers and we all know how that turned out.
This shit is just engagement bait. Do you think the 12 Carolina fans will care if they’re given a low percentage, no. But they know the numbers they give teams with bigger fanbases like NYR and TOR will drive engagement.
NGL I think We are the only team that can beat Carolina in a 7 game series, I also think there are plenty of teams that can beat us. They are relentless.. but we have their number for now.Â
Why ever trust the imaginary numbers and ‘stats’ of the bean counters?
MoneyPuck has the Rangers #1 at 14% so I’ll take them over the measly Athletic any day of the week
