Artyom Levshunov Or Ivan Demidov For The Chicago Blackhawks At The NHL Draft?

Maxwell we’re going to keep it with the demidov and levanov uh because the Blackhawks fans definitely are going to be asking about this a lot and this one comes from Maxwell could you make the case for levanov over demidov that some Scouts in Chicago’s draft meetings will be trying to make so yeah so let’s get into that I think if you are specifically the Chicago Blackhawks and you have these specific needs Ivan demidov fits a need in the organization a scoring Winger another complimentary piece to Conor Bard a guy that can be a high-end offensive player or a true defenseman of the future Aram levanov right shot big physical enough good skater offensive capabilities you know you’ve got Kevin kinsky on the left side you’ve got a lot of guys on the left side you don’t have many on the right side so if I’m say I’m team levanov I’m saying this guy is a number one defenseman for us he’s going to be you know at worst at number two he’s going to give us that offensive ability on the back end he defends well he plays the game like it’s you know real easily um he’s got a short timeline to the NHL maximum probably a year um you know just because of how well he played at the NCAA ranks and how he’s progressed and and if you’re confident in that progression you know you’re at worst waiting for a year he might even be ready next season um you know do you want to throw him in there I don’t know um I think I probably want to have a little bit of a later timeline on his contract as well let them go back to Michigan State but the other thing that or or or I could put them in the AHL too that’s another option the Black Ox will have available to them since they’ll be coming out of the NCAA rank so there there are options there I would also say we have developmental options we have you know time we can work with them we’ve got the right people all those different things I think that’s really fascinating to see how that’ll work out but um you know I would say for uh for for for the rest of this for the for these for for what they’re doing with demidov I’d say well we’ve got Conor Bard we’ve got Frank ner we’ve got Oliver Moore we’ve got a lot of guys down the middle um but we really need to get some wings we really need to find some guys that are going to be top six producers we need a guy that that that can drive play alongside Conor that can be a guy that you know can can get there um maybe he’s not on the same line as Bard but then he gives us some balance um if he’s the Topline Wing maybe that they could be you know the the duo that that becomes our McDavid dry side situation or maybe Arcane Tav situation um you know that those are the types of things that you’d be looking at if I were to counter either of those arguments and I think that’s the important thing here too so if I’m on team levanov and I’m saying yeah but demidov is another 511 forward he is a guy that you know the the skating is only okay he’s only played in the u20 ranks in in in uh in Russia we don’t have a good book on him against top level competition you know what happens when things get harder does the production go away you know those kinds of things there’s a lot we don’t know as for levanov if I’m on team demidov I’m saying what are the odds that he’s goingon to be a number one defenseman are they or or even a top pairing defenseman are they you know better than the chances that demidov becomes a Topline scoring Winger we’re confident in the offensive ability we don’t think that there’s a lot of to to leave on the table whereas there’s enough development left for levanov that maybe we go in a different direction so that is an interesting kind of way to think about it too is that you have these needs unquestionably in the wing and the for and the defenseman and if you think that you have a guaranteed Topline Wing that you’re confident is going to score demidov is the guy but if you are confident that LE shanov is a number one defenseman of the future that is going to be the anchor of your blue line that is going to do all those things then that’s the obvious choice I think you go to D over over Wing in most situations unless that Wing is special and demidov very well could be special um you know there are some that say Hey he he’s better than Matt vay mitkov was last year and you guys know how much I love Matt vay mitkov I haven’t bought that yet I think mitkov is a genius I think demidov is very very smart and very good offensively but mitov had you know a better profile there’s a lot to to to break down there and and to me if I’m the Chicago Blackhawks I know that I personally have said I think the decision goes down to demidov and levanov but they’re not in a position to rule anyone out yet I think you got to look at Sal have closely I think you got to look at the left shot defenseman closely even though you have strength on the left side you’ve got to look at Kaden Lindstrom you’ve got to look at Berkeley Kon even you’ve got to look at every single option because this is a critical pick for the the franchise you knew you weren’t GNA screw up Conor Bard now you have to make it matter more with this next pick so I think that that’s going to be one of the real interesting things for this draft is you know what does Chicago do it to they hold the key to really how the rest of the round is going to go because we already know celebrini is going one so they’re the ones that kind of hold the key to the next phase and how things are going to shake out

If you were the Chicago Blackhawks scouts, would you be pushing for Artyom Levshunov or Ivan Demidov with the second-overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft? Chris Peters breaks down both sides of the argument in the latest episode of Talking Hockey Sense with Chris Peters.

  1. bedardemidov > joneshunov!! demidov or lindstrom is the pick at #2 for the hawks. the hawks top d-pairing is vlasic and jones (signed for the next 6 years). plus kfc just took korch to be their future pp qb two drafts ago at #7. it would be a total brain fart to give up on him after just 1 season and change course/direction. the hawks problem is not their d-core. they still have more youngsters otw (edm, allan, kaiser, rinzel, crevier, phillips). don't get hung up on right shot or left shot, and how the hawks have so many left shots and hardly any right shots. remember, hammer was a left shot def who played on the right side. the hawks scoring was historically bad last season. a top 6 forward is so much more of a need over a top 4 def. the hawks can grab a defenseman (even a rhd) at #20 or in 2nd rd to add to the depth of their d-core. but you don't pass up on rare talents like demidov or lindstrom.

  2. What evidence is there that Levshunov can be a shut down defenseman? Because all #1 defenseman have to not only be a puck mover and offensive, but they are playing so much that they have to be shut down guys as well. I think its more likely that Levshunov is an awesome #3 or #4 on a champion. Do you draft that #2 overall? I don't think that's smart.

  3. In Michkov's draft year, he was about 1 inch shorter and 10bs lighter than Demidov. NHL Central Scouting has Demidov at 5'11" 181lbs. Michkov was 5'10 172lbs

  4. I know I’m just a random commenter, but I’m positive Demidov is the correct DECISION. I PROMISE you my take will at least interest you. Hottest Blackhawks take you’ll see on the internet is RIGHT HERE:

    – So YES, obviously LEVSHUNOV or hell even ZEEV BUIUM could be the better pro later on, but HAWKS MUST TAKE DEMIDOV.

    – Why? DEMIDOV’s potential GOD-LIKE impact on a franchise is not only MORE irreplaceable due to rarity, but it ALSO ALLOWS the HAWKS to tank at an ELITE level at least 1-2 more times and allows them to draft at least ONE “NO doubt about it 1A/1B defensemen.” Possibly two ANYWAY. GUARANTEED.

    – HAWKS have time to kill with the Seth Jones contract anyway. Drafting Levshunov LITERALLY is counterproductive because a NOW IS NOT THE TIME FOR “A SAFE LEVSHUNOV PICK”
-WHY? DRAFTING LEV raises the blackhawks floor but they’ll still be a bottom 10ish team. Now it’s that much more impossible to find that uniquely dominant and impossibly high-ceilinged young forward.
    – ^ THIS risks Blackhawks getting stuck in MEDIOCRITY LAND INDEFINITELY. And for ZERO reason other than NEGLIGENCE.
-In conclusion, Hawks EASILY might NEVER find another young forward as SPECIAL as DEMIDOV. Hawks ABSOLUTELY WILL walk into at least 1 one more similarly impactful LEVSHUNOV-ESQUE player
