Aaron Rodgers: Jets are ‘must watch TV’, Is New York ready for primetime? | NFL | THE CARTON SHOW

Aaron Rodgers was on the radio and he was asked about all of the Prime Time games that the New York Jets are getting this season and here is how he responded to the query he said quote we are must watch TV and that’s pretty obvious everybody knows that whether you love me or hate me people want to see me play they enjoy watching me play and we are a team to watch this year Craig how do you feel about your quarterback once again doubling down on the high expectations yeah I’m with Greg and it’s great to hear Greg say because Greg knows and played with them I’m just a fan of the team and I love having him as my quarterback but the fact that he’s double down now triple down and I guess whatever other interviews he does leading up to this Summer’s training camp that’s going to be the refrain of the New York Jets that we are musty TV we are a damn good football team and we I I give you an example of why this is special uh as you guys know I’m I’m very close with the jet organization uh the executives the coaching staff a bunch of the players uh Etc who I count as friends in my life and there’s a there’s a mantra that a number of them have had in talking to me uh this offseason getting ready for what they hope is you’re the best season they’ve had since 1969 and is that one of the goals they have is to get this their words not mine is to get the stink off the organization and that’s a goal and when you hear Aon Rogers talk about how we are must SE TV how we can beat anybody we’re embracing the fact that we’re one of the best teams on a piece of paper in the in the NFL that we do have Super Bowl aspirations that is a far contrast from where this organization has been in my entire life time even the back-to-back AFC championship games with our colleague Mark Sanchez weren predicted rookie quarterback second-year quarterback you know on the road against Tom Brady on the road against pton Manning these were upset wins there wasn’t an expectation that we’re good enough to make the Run weather is now and I think embracing that allows the New York Jets to start shedding themselves of the stink that has been on this organization yeah and look to be quite Frank about it like some of these young players that are within this organization like the Garrett Wilson’s the the sauce gardeners gree Hall like although they’ve experienced a couple years now of of down of what it is to be a jet they weren’t anticipating that last season but they don’t believe that they can’t win they don’t believe that they’re the same old Jets so when you have a guy that’s embracing when I say all the smoke all of the smoke and Aaron Rogers he is like putting it out there like this is like a prize fighter who’s talking smack before he fights Prime Time tele pay-per-view it’s like you want to come and watch me play I’m going to be the player to watch like he gets it everybody is waiting to see what he looks like what he will turn this organization into because the potential on paper is there and no one talks about potential unless it’s possibly something that can be something special and look a lot we we live in a generation where a lot of guys talk a lot of smack and they haven’t Des earned the right to do it they haven’t won they haven’t been the reason a team has won a championship and had a parade and all that he’s done it all he’s a four-time MVP he’s a Super Bowl champion he’ll be the first to tell you in one of the most stored franchises in the NFL the Green Bay Packers he believes he’s the greatest Green Bay Packer of all time and you’re talking about what a couple dozen guys that are in Canton Ohio uh for the Green Bay Packer franchise so we haven’t had a guy like that we’ve never had we’ve had a bunch of guys who talked a lot of smack and didn’t back it up or didn’t have the resume where you can’t argue with the guy because when that guy’s on his game he’s the best at what he does he represents something totally different look how he jumps he jumps different jum great jumping great jumping that’s the greatest two-legged jump I’ve ever seen so I have a question for both of you about Aaron Rogers and Greg I thought you did a great job in the show yesterday just contrasting his attitude from last offseason to this offseason because last offseason I’m not the Savior I’m just trying to help this team this offseason Super Bowl MVP everyone wants to see us must see TV what changed in his mind from last season to this season so I think being off the field and watching your team play without you you get to see what their makeup is like the guys who really will go to bat and really grind it out so for me him him not being on the field and seeing that we have something special and still believing that we can do something if I’m under Center but a lot of people want to discredit the Jets last season because they won seven games and they didn’t make the postseason sure had that been Aaron Rogers under Center and that happened I get it but that was that was Zach Wilson if Zach Wilson and was the starting quarterback coming into last season and there was no Aaron Rogers we would have had no expectations but the fact that Aaron Rogers is sitting on that sideline and they were able to still win seven games we anticipate him being able to do more that’s just the reality every year that he was in Green Bay and he was healthy under Center we said every single year Green Bay is a contender contend it didn’t matter he was going the ball to it didn’t matter what their defense looked like every single year now all of a sudden just because he’s in a different uniform and he’s missed the year I get all of those things but when I say I’ve played with this man and I know he’s not the same player that he was when we won the Super Bowl he will tell you that however as we’ve seen quarterbacks are playing longer because not just because they’re skilled but because of their minds like you can’t tell me a quarterback in this league that has a sharper mind playing football than Aaron Rogers Patrick Mahomes you can say probably has more skill all the things but when it comes to football I don’t know anyone that’s better it shows you how dangerous the mind really is when you can the fact that he could compartmentalize being a football Savant and one of the great football thinkers as a as a great quarterback has to be and also be such a n with a lot of his stuff over here I specify the fact that he could turn that one off and turn this one on and I would just add one little caveat to a grg just said there uh having met and become friendly with a lot of athletes and watch them go through their playing uh years to retirement I think something’s different with Alan Rogers this year that he’s never experienced before the game was taken away from him and he wasn’t ready for the game to be taken away from him now he knows it’s going to happen soon whether it’s a year from now two years from now whatever it might be and he hopes he gets to do that on his terms that he gets to walk away and say I just can’t do it at the level I want to do it and I think we’re watching a guy that misses it that missed playing football last year which is why he was throwing the football pregame and at halftime you know that rankled some Jet fans me included as Zach Wilson was struggling I think you’ve got a guy that’s in love with the sport of football and it was taken away from him and I think that’s part of what you’re seeing also yeah as well as he feels like he’s a part like regardless if he says this or not well he kind of said it he’s the reason why they weren’t able to at least attempt to accomplish something special last year like they were all excited we heard Quinn Williams and Hard Knocks say Aaron Rogers is here to say the DAT like they really believe that do like and he understands the load that’s on him the shoulders that he’s going to or the weight that he’s going to have to carry as far as taking this team all the way to the top it reminds me of Katie Spain you do not know who Katie Spain is Katie Spain was my first girlfriend uh in kindergarten and kindergarten yeah she was a diabetic and I used to you uh bribe her with Jello and then and then I just I’m I miss Jello so much I stopped giving her the jello and she broke up with me and I I long for her to this day how is that related to the because he Longs for football the way I long for Katie Spain who really longed for Jello and not me really wasn’t about me hey there thank you so much
