WHO DO THE ANAHEIM DUCKS PICK IF CELEBRINI AND DEMIDOV ARE GONE? #nhl #nhldraft #anaheimducks #tij
there are many people in the NHL draft universe that are saying mcklin celebrini and Ivan demidov are going to be the first two selections at the draft this year at the sphere in Las Vegas so if that is indeed the case today we’re going to try to answer the question what do the Anaheim Ducks do with the number three pick hey everybody Welcome in clear and the Benes your One-Stop shop for daily fresh hockey content if you go ahead and hit your subscribe button right now every single day we’ll bring you in a new hockey video to enjoy a lot of people think you know mlin celebrini obviously is going to go number one and there are a ton of experts that are saying that the Russian Superstar Ivan demidov is going to go number two and I could see that happening uh you know it doesn’t add up mathematically but there’s about eight guys that I can see have a 50-50 chance at getting drafted number two overall uh and Demi do is definitely one of them so for the purposes of this video let’s say celebrini and demid go one and two what do the Anaheim Ducks do at three let’s take a look at their GM first Pat verbi let’s try to get in his mind set see what kind of uh things he may be thinking coming up on the draft first of all he played in the NHL and he was 59 190 lbs he had 522 goals to go with 540 assists for 1,62 points hold on to your hat he had 2,95 penalty minutes he’s 11th all time Rick toet is number 10 all time with just 65 more penalty minutes than him with 2,970 and Craig barui comes in at number seven with 3,149 penalty minutes so uh when you see these guys coaching Styles barui and tet Tak just won the Jack Adams and barui just got hired up in Toronto these guys all think the same so again when you look at how pater be may be thinking moving up into this draft it gives us a little better idea of you know where he’s coming from um in 2003 Patrick Kane lived with Pat verbi when he was playing for the HoneyBaked under 16 team in Michigan and Patrick Kane said that verbi was his mentor and he patterned his game after pat verb’s game so that is just you know uh you could not get a bigger compliment than that and again Pat verb won the Stanley Cup with the 1999 Dallas Stars so he’s done it all that is for sure uh let’s take a look at what the ducks have done recently in the draft and in the last five drafts they have gone Center D Center D Center so if they’re going to follow that pattern they would take a Dand this year but let’s take a look uh and see where they’re at first of all 29 19 they started off by taking the center Trevor zis had an off year last year let’s hope he has a bounceback year for them uh 2020 they took the defenseman Jamie Dale who they’ve since moved on from traded him to the Philadelphia Flyers for cutter goate and I think cutter goate is a very Pat verb type of kid so I’d be very interested to see how that plays out in the very near future um another Pat verb type of kid Mason Mavish when you watch Mason McTavish you know think of him uh his aggression Factor went uh times 10 then you would have what Pat verb was when he played 2022 they hit a home run right here with this kid on defense in pavl mov this kid is just he is just very stable he makes all the right decisions he doesn’t get rattled he’s got good Escape ability uh he’s a bigger kid he can take the body they really did well with that pick and then last year again uh Pat forek surprised a lot of people and he went with Leo Carlson over Adam Fant Tilly and I think that’s because he thinks that Carlson’s a little bit more of an aggressive player an aggressive skater when you watch him you know you can draw comparisons in his skating style to Nathan McKinnon when he gets that puck he’s really Galloping and he’s a big kid and he is just very difficult to knock off of the puck uh so again in their Last 5 Years Center D Center D Center so you know if they were to take a defenseman first of all they would have their pick of the cream of the crop uh there are just a plethora of good defenseman there are six really good ones that they could choose from at that pick RM lunov Z boam Zane perk H salv is going to be a shutdown defenseman Sam Dickinson’s a shutdown defenseman who can also help out offensive and just a nasty kid overall to play against in Carter yakam Chuck uh I could see Dickinson and yakam Chuck being very Pat verak type of guys so if I heard either one of those names go off the board at three would not surprise me at all uh when we look at the forwards that they could pick from uh first of all you know what you hear a lot of people talking about it uh TJ ginla yeah he’s rising up the board and he’s rising up the board fast personally I like Berkeley katton just a smidge more than I like ainla but again that’s Fords and Chevys um you know uh when I look at what they could do with forwards Pat for beak is the type of guy he’s very confident in his abilities that’s why he went ahead with the Carlson pick over Fant Tilly if he were to take TJ ginla at the third overall pick would not Shock Me I think a more likely scenario would maybe he would uh you know trade down swap picks with somebody and maybe the top 10 I don’t think he wants to drop out of the top 10 uh but again if he really wanted te ainla you know him and ainla is old man they played around the same time they played the exact same game uh very just in your face crashing the net not afraid to fight you not afraid to uh you know give you a nasty cross check uh so I could see a guy like Pat verb potentially falling in love with a kid like TJ ginla and is shocking everybody and taking them at number three uh if you wanted to add a bigger body to the lineup you know you’ve got some guys that are a little on the frail side Troy Terry’s not the biggest guy zis isn’t the biggest guy uh M McTavish is a smaller guy you could draft Kaden Lindstrom Lindstrom is drawing comparisons to Eric Lindros 64 240 you know it’s like a freight train with a hockey stick and the puck um Good Luck stopping that and it got guy like Lindstrom has got a little nasty streak to him too so um the only problem I see with Lindstrom is that you know the injury thing and again he plays a very physical game so that could lead to more injuries in the future uh hopefully he’s 100% healthy and he stays healthy and we get to see him at his best but I could definitely see uh again he being a very um you know somebody that Pat verb would be very interested in and again another kid that I see coming out of the WHL um you know and he may drop down a little bit because of all the defenseman but that is Berkeley katton and I could see him being a pat verb type of guy too I think number three might be a little bit high for him but again you never know what a guy like verb’s going to do he doesn’t care what you think it’s what he thinks if he falls in love with the player if he sees somebody maybe he sees himself in and Berkeley cat highly skilled he’s got a little nasty attitude to him as well maybe a guy like verb says let’s roll the dice and take a chance on Kon uh option number two would be they trade the pick if they were to trade the pick I could not see them doing it uh dropping out of the top 10 in the first round unless they were to you know trade it for you know Blockbuster deal and they’re just getting some insane Superstar uh with that pick so let’s take a look at some team that may call Pat verb or he may call them and try to kick the tires on a trade uh first of all San Jose they’re taking Macklin celebrini number one overall maybe they want to use that number 14 pick they have in some of their future draft assets or maybe a prospect to try to move up maybe they want to move up and they’ve got their eye you know on a defenseman maybe they fell in love with you know boam or Liv shov or one of those guys or maybe they want a big body and they want to put Caden Lindstrom up there and have it so that you would be bringing up Cellini and Caden Lindstrom at the same time uh so you know that’s not out of the realm of possibilities Mike career is going to want to make a big splash and a big push forward this year uh and again they’ve got a lot of assets and they’ve got a lot of draft picks so there’s a lot that they could do with that and maybe they make an offer sweet enough that verbi says you know what I’ll drop down to 14 because I’m getting the other things that I want in this deal next up on a team that you know obviously you’re going to have to call them is the Calgary Flames you know and you just say hey we’re about to make our pick you know 15 minutes 10 minutes however long you get and you say you know we’re thinking about taking a ginla uh if you want them you can have them right now I don’t see a downside to Calgary trading up and picking a ginla uh I think first of all the city would love it the league would love it uh it would give everybody such an awesome story to talk about you know leading into the future and again you don’t want to be Calgary and you pass on TJ Gila and then he goes on to be a superstar somewhere else and everybody says what are you doing you had a chance to take this kid and you let him go so I could see Calgary uh trying to put something together they pick at number nine uh maybe they say to uh Pat verb hey you know what we’ll give you swap the three we’ll give you the nine and we’ll throw in you know eigor Sharon goic Sharon govic had 31 goals 28 assists this year he’s only 25 years old and he looks like he’s getting better every year uh that would be a good skill guy that you could you know put out there with um Macklin celebrini so another guy you know what if they had to maybe if were really really trying to get a ginet with that pick maybe they would you know say hey we’ll give you the nine and Connor Zer I would never move off from Conor Zer I think that kid’s going to be a star in this league for years to come uh but you never know what happens in these trade negotiations and I could see Pat verb loving a kid like Connor G uh Connor Zary and saying we want that kid in part of the return package so again that might be a little bit high for T ginla but if you’re Calgary how could there be a downside to making a trade for him your fan base would just be so excited as with the league uh next up a team that could want to move up and maybe they’ve got their eye on somebody that they want to you know go after and that’s the Ottawa Senators you know they pick Sev so uh maybe they say Hey listen we’ll swap the three and the seven maybe we’ll throw in Jacob CH I’ve been hearing his name and off awful lot you know I saw him here in Arizona I like the kid as a person he seems like a really nice kid but when you look at what he was projected to be and you look at his numbers every year it’s very disappointing and he’s like a huge minus uh in his career as well so when I look at a guy like that you know what uh maybe they want to have him in Anaheim and you could replace Jamie Dale you know you just shipped him out so this would be you’d be getting the number seven overall pick and you could still you know get any one of these defenseman some of these forwards may still be available and Jacob chid uh to go on the back end so that could also be a possibility and then finally the last trade option I think that there could be would be with the former Arizona Coyotes now Utah and they are picking six so maybe they would say hey let’s swap the number six for the number three um Utah’s got 10 second round draft picks in the next three years so maybe they say hey we’ll give you this six uh and a bunch of draft picks maybe a future draft pick you know go on our board see what we’ve got see what you like let us know maybe they throw in a guy like Barrett Hayden I think Hayden could get moved this off seon uh but again they’ve got tons of draft capitals so you would be able to uh you know in the future and again and you’re only talking about in the top 60 picks there’s a lot of kids that are really really good in the top 60 picks and you just need one of them to hit and it’s a successful deal uh and I could see a guy like Bill Armstrong who loves everybody to be big number three if he could get his hands on salv or if he could get his hands on Kaden Lindstrom I would see him just getting very excited and wanting to make a deal and get it done in a hurry so that’s going to take a look at what we think the Anaheim Ducks could indeed do at the number three selection if Macklin celebrini and Ivan demid doer already off the board one and two let me know what you think down in the comments section if you could please hit your like button hit the Subscribe button and as we always do here at clearing the benches let them know you’re out there
The Anaheim Ducks hold the # 3 overall selection in this years NHL draft which takes place at the Sphere in Las Vegas, June 27-28.
If consensus #1pick Macklin Celebrini and much heralded Russian Superstar Ivan Demidov are selected 1-2, what do the Ducks do at 3?
They could trade the pick to move down or they could make their own selection.
Over the past five drafts the Ducks have taken Trevor Zegras, Jamie Drysdale, Mason Mactavish Pavel Mintyukov and Leo Carlsson.
Would they want to pick a defenseman from the corps of: Zayne Parekh, Zeev Buium, Carter Yakemchuck, Artyem Levshunov and Anton Silayev or a forward like Catden Lindstrom, Tij Iginla or Berkly Catton?
Would Anaheim GM Pat Verbeek consider trading down for additional assets or a player?
