WHAT’S NEXT FOR LEAFS HEAD COACH CRAIG BERUBE?

back with the coach Bruce Buro Bruce we know Craig buub is gradually meeting the Leaf’s players we’ve seen the evidence on social media but what about management there’s so much talk about Brad tring breaking up the core 4 and potentially shaking up this lineup do you think baru is sitting down with management to make his case for what he’d like to see this team look like I think um quite frankly he did that in an interview I mean I’m sure Brad said well what do you think about this team what do you think what direction it’s going to go and I think Craig would have uh stated honestly which way which where it’s going to go because I think that’s one of the reasons he was hired he probably his mindset was probably in the very same as Brad TR livings here so I mean in the next uh little while they’ve already started meeting with players I don’t know how long that’s going to go then I got to believe he’s going to start meeting is this the staff I want do I want my own guys usually coaches bring in at least one guy of their own that they know that they can trust maybe he’s already got that guy there we don’t know but I think that’s going to be the way that they start going and I mean Craig will have nothing to do with the draft but I mean on free agent day he’ll be at the table he’ll be waiting um Brad saying hey we got a chance uh to make this kind of move that kind of move what do you think he’ll be he’ll be there for advice he and letting him know about players that Brad and the leaf other Leaf brass doesn’t doesn’t know about but I mean he’s not the one that’s going to make the decision I’m sure he’s going to be happy with anything Brad says and does because they’re already on the same wavelength that’s why he’s got the job all right let’s talk about what to do with the core for as well as the other key free agents if you were taking over this organization from behind the bench what would you want to see happen with this team wow that’s a good question um nobody’s ever asked me if I wanted to be in charge before but if I if I was able to uh if I was able to like the core four are great hockey players and they create some great I would like to add to them where it’s a four-line team that’s what I would like to do I would like those four guys can stay the same you’d have the top uh two lines maybe in the league but I mean you got to get the third and the fourth line stronger so they can play less minutes like if you look at what the Oilers did uh the last game and or a couple games that they’ve won in this series they’ve limited the ice time to uh they’re not playing MCD 28 minutes they’re not playing dry SLE 26 minutes so you need if you want the the leaves to get better you need that third and fourth line to be able to play over 10 minutes a night and that’s what they have to do as to who the players are I don’t know that’s whoever they like but I think that’s where I would go I would keep the core four and add to it and if you do that you’re going to have a great forward line all right it’s going to be busy offseason for the decision makers in Leafs land in addition to whatever they do on the trade front they also need to deal deal with 14 free agents from last year’s roster

Gino Reda is joined by TSN Hockey Analyst to discuss coach Craig Berube the Maple Leafs management’s checklist for this offseason.
