with rumors swirling that last year’s prized pick Matt vay mechkov may be playing in the NHL as soon as this season today we’re asking the big question what are the Philadelphia Flyers going to do season uh the Flyers picked number 12 So today we’re going to take a look at what they could possibly do at the number 12 pick first off let’s take a look at their general manager Danny Brier had a long NHL career Big Time playoff uh performer I think he had 116 playoff points in 124 games uh so he was big money 1996 coyotes make him their first round draft pick and everybody knows the story that Austin Matthews said growing up that Danny Brier was his favorite player and that he patterned his game after Brier’s game uh he’s been the Flyers GM since March of 2023 when they gave him the interterm GM tag and then on May 11th of 2023 they named him him the full-time GM let’s take a look at some of the big name number 12 overall picks in NHL history and there are some huge ones and the biggest of them all Marian HOSA 1,134 NHL points Gary Roberts 99 points Alex Tang 863 points Ryan McDon Max doy Dave G Marty n Cam Fowler Mark stall all of those guys are having big big NHL careers uh when we look at the recent number 12 picks in the NHL draft way back in 2018 the New York Islanders selected Noah Dobson 2019 Minnesota took Matt baly 2020 Anton Lindell went to Florida you see him in the playoffs and how he’s performing Cole cyinder went to CB J in 2021 Denton matechuk 2022 was the 12 overall pick and last year in a surprising move the Arizona coyote selected Russian forward denil boot uh when we look at the Flyers recent selections okay 2019 Joel faraby J obrien I don’t know what j o Brian’s doing these days but Joel farby I know is on the trade block 2020 they took Tyson Forester and that looks like it’s going to work out for them 2021 uh they did not have a first round draft pick and they took a guy Samuel Tamala in the second round and in 2022 you know they had cutter gotier who they have since moved on from he said he didn’t want to play for the Flyers they traded him to Anaheim for defenseman Jamie Dale and then last year they had two selections and they took Matt Bay me mechkov and Oliver Bon and it looks like both of those players are going to pan out for the Flyers in the future let’s take a look at what the Flyers options are this year at number 12 first thing they can do is they can stay at 12 keep the pick uh and you know maybe at that point they just want to take the best player available maybe they don’t want to move up maybe they don’t want to move down you know we’re looking at all the different scenarios and if they stay at 12 there’s a good good possibility there’s going to be some big big names available for them to select uh cona helenius may drop down to 12 because of all the defenseman that are going another big guy that the Flyers could just fall in love with is guy named Liam Green Tree just another big body and I would say you know what just a typical Flyers player very gritty very determined player uh their next option maybe they want to trade up maybe there’s somebody that they see and they’ve just got to have them uh they’ve got some Capital that they could work with they’ve got the number 12 pick in the first round they’ve got the number uh 30 pick in the first round you could add Joel farab in I’ve heard His Name a lot in uh recent trade rumors and they also have the 51st pick so you know uh if you were to call somebody like Chicago and try to make a deal you would have some things that they would definitely you know be listening for I don’t know if the Flyers you know would really want to go for it move up that high of course they would want to but could they you know and imagine demidov with mechkov that could be like a lethal tandem for years to come if they were to get Kaden Lindstrom now you got another big bodied guy and again there’s so many good defenseman if one of them were to fall to them they could just you know use that uh pick but again they could you either stay where they’re at and they’re going to get a good guy or like I said they’ve got the capital they could move up they could also want to move down let’s say that the player that they’re looking at or players that they’re looking at are already gone at 12 uh you know they could trade down and maybe a few picks later you know you could still get a you know really good guy uh you know you could get a Trevor Connelly maybe helenus is still available Becket senin Michael BR nyard Carter yakam chuck would be an awesome flyer although I think he’s going to go earlier Charlie ell another big right-handed shot defenseman coming in at 63200 so maybe these guys are available a little bit later and the Flyers move down uh to you know try to draft them now let’s just say that they were going to go for like they’re going to call Chicago and say hey see if you would be interested in taking this for the number two overall pick okay Philly could send 12 30 51 and you know maybe farbe maybe a prospect I don’t know maybe there’s another guy on that roster uh that Chicago really likes and Philly would be willing to uh you know leave and let go to uh Chicago now you look at what Chicago already has they’re picking at 28 and 34 let’s just say they made this trade with the Flyers after the trade with the Flyers Chicago would have 12 18 30 34 and 50 five of the top 50 players in this year’s draft and in this year’s draft there’s at least 25 guys that are are Rock Solid that everyone is going to be very very happy uh selecting and then even into the second round there’s going to be some really really good guys available so that’s going to do it for the video today let me know what you think the
