Pirates’ Offense Breaks Through in the Ninth in Win | Pirates vs. Cardinals Highlights (6/11/24)

the Young Buck Paul SK just 22 years old SK undefeated 3-0 with an erra of three making his sixth Major League start and the first time that the Cardinals will see one of the Pirates young Aces he’ll go for Pittsburgh here tonight if you’re just a baseball fan and you’re here in St Louis you got to be so excited to see this young guy Paul SK pitch tonight miles Michael the last couple of times he’s looked free he’s looked easy so much weak contact he’ll use his defense he pounds the strike zone hopefully a lot of quick outs here against the Bucko Andrew McCutchen ready to go so’s miles michelas off the knuckles and out to Second and the peg to First there’s that soft contact grab was talking about McCutchen grounds out stepping to the plate now is Brian Reynolds veteran switch hitter lifted toward left and Donovan will move to his right Reynolds retired two up two down and here’s Conor Joe the two- one pitch is popped up Mason wi has plenty of room at Short Stop and a terrific Breeze of a first inning for Miles micheles now the Cardinals come to bat in the home half of the first inning against the Pirates 22-year-old right-hander Paul SK and strike three got him with that big slider one out that’s a pitch that if he can get that going tonight well look out strike out number 39 on the season one and two he’s got backto back KS to begin this outing in St Louis Paul goldmit been on base 26 games in a row that line to left nice job Reynolds one two three for Paul skin O’Neal Cruz hitting clean up followed by ke Brian Hayes and Nick Gonzalez as this one on the ground to first right two Paul goldi O’Neal Cruz is retired for out number one second ground out for miles michelas into Right Center canani is there had an awkward route but he made the catch and again the two two pitch swing and a miss michelas has faced six batters he’s retired them all Gonzalez down on strikes and the Red Birds go to work in a scoreless second we go to the bottom of the second inning here in St Louis it’s the Pirates nothing and the Cardinals nothing Nolan’s Gorman and arado followed by Brendan Donovan against Paul SK and now a 1-1 pitch dribbled to third Hayes on two hops Fields with time it’s it across and one out ronado at 252 six homers and 30 RB for him just a roller weekly hit rolled to Hayes throws out his counterpart and the pitch swing and a Fly ball out to second base Nick Gonzalez just beyond the rim of the infield makes the catch in the inning ends so both SK and michelas have been perfect through two top of the third inning no score no runs no hits no nothing now two strikes on grandall hitting a 167 he’s got a couple of home runs next pitch on the way swinging a miss and he’s down on strikes so that’s second strike out for Miles Michels this evening and that’ll bring up Jack swinsky another one on the way and it’s a call strike three see you later three up three down nice going miles three strikeouts so far tonight we go to the bottom of the third no score Matt Carpenter leads things off for the Red Birds red birds looking for their first hit of the night and he comes back and gets him with what looked like that combo Sinker splitter this is just a devastating pitch watch this watch where the ball starts and then eventually ends up I mean it starts as you’re if you’re a hitter and you’re looking out there you think okay oh off speed all right well at least it’s going to stay on the on the plate somewhere that Ball’s two ends up two balls below the strike zone chop toward third that could have been a tough little hop handled by Hayes onew from skin swinging a bouncer right back to him he glove it SE running it out hard he’ll be put out and it’s nine up and nine down for skin as well matching michelis 12 up 12 down Perfection here in St Louis for michelas and SK Paul SK back to the mound for the Pirates here bottom of the fourth neither team has had a base runner and he’s got another strike out fourth strike out for skin that brings up Alec buron Burleson struck out swinging his first time up breaking ball that’s hammered towards Center and swinsky Dives and can’t make the play Burleson has the first Cardinal hit it comes with one out in the fourth inning the center field swinsky made a gallant effort but he came up just a little short so we now have our first hit of the night Goldie lined out his first time up carries a nine game hitting streak and a 26 game on base streak wave and a miss makes gold Schmid look silly number five for SK two outs here’s the pitch grounded right to Second Nick Gonzalez up with it and on to first for the final out so a one out single left on for St Louis scoreless game miles michelas has been outstanding he’ll face Cruz Hayes and Gonzalez and Frozen there for out number one michelas has his fourth strikeout and he set down the first 13 in order Mason wi handles this one at short and Hayes is an easy out Nick Gonzalez was a strikeout victim his first time up and Pops it up right side that’s playable for Goldie in foul ground michelas breezes through five innings the Cardinals have the game’s only hit Alec Bur provided that Nolan ronado leads it off for St Louis we’ll go to the bottom of the fifth inning line into center field that ball is down for a hit ronado has the Cardinal second single and for the first time tonight the red birds have their leadoff man aboard do him it on the ground that’s going to sneak through for a hit ronado around second he’s going to try for third he’s going to make it without a play and the Cardinals have them at the corners with nobody out nobody out in a scoreless game fifth inning we see how skin can try to pitch out of this here’s the pitch and he got him that’s big struck him out number six for skin one away in the fifth he does get him high heat 99 number seven for sches he’s 2/3 of the way there so it’s up to Michael canani wow bounc ball Tes on to SK he does it Paul SK keeps the Cardinals off the board one away in the sixth this is the longest perfect game bid for michelas here’s a 3-2 and he walked grandal so the Pirates have a base runner for the first time tonight so a walk to the eighth place hitter sets it up for Jack swinsky in a scoreless top half of the sixth inning michelas gets a swing in a miss his fifth punch out swinsky is retired on strikes for the second time mcino for two big breaking ball is smacked into Center SE measures that one up and Michaelis Works around his first base runner of the game home sixth coming up top of the order still no score we are in the seventh inning already and you can’t pitch any better than that man has tonight pirates still looking for a hit Brian Reynolds will start it off the Fly ball to center field C back toward the track nearing the wall Off the Wall Reynolds going to head to Third Base he’s going to be standing at third with a lead off trip trip triple Michael canani goes back on this gives it everything that he has to try to preserve that no hitter goes up and just misses it Cardinal fans big round of applause for the show that Miles micheles has put on to this point so first and third nobody out O’Neal Cruzer batter struck him out looking again miles drops the hammer on Cruz one away in the seventh SOI Bryant Hayes is next he’s over for two line to third step on the B double play michelas works out of first and third nobody out and a lineer to third ronado diving to the bag ends the pirat seven still no score an instant classic in St Louis tonight and now some history for skes the longest he’s pitched as a big leager is six Innings he’ll try to get an out or two here in the seven he struck him out on his 99th pitch Hall skes strikeout number eight he’ll face arado one for two against him line over third arado with two strikes dumps one into left he’s around first he’s trying for two here’s the throw it’s going to be lay a hustle double and that’ll be it for Paul schin a lot of Applause for SK and it’s Cardinals fans too A lot of them came out to see the Pirates wonderful rookie right-hander to battle the bullpens the rest of the way tonight what a game for Michaela s skes we are through seven scoreless just six combined hits and it’s JoJo Romero answering the first Chevy call to the P runner at first with a catcher up you’re a double play away from keeping the game scoreless the pitch from Romero is grounded up the middle and that’s handled by Gorman right on the bag and he throws the first for a double play and the Cardinals put another zero on the board Helly just does not have his Command right now A Walk to lead this off a four pitch walk a base hit by McCutchen base is loaded with bucks in the ninth and it’s Conor Joe and a line drive oh what a pick it short throw to the plate no safe what a stop by Mason wi but the one hopper PES couldn’t hold on everybody’s safe it’s one- nothing and a Fly ball to left and this should bring home McCutchen he will tag and he will score it is two nothing buckos here in the night now David Bednar is coming on to try to close it and for Bednar he owns the lowest career earned run average against the Cardinals in baseball history for the Cardinals it’s Nolan Gorman who went over for three against Paul skem tonight swing High Fly ball cracked toward the Cardinals Bullpen that ball is going to go it’s a home run it’s a 2-1 game Dorman’s 15 what a way to start this bottom half of the inning tying run on base in the bottom of the ninth inning for Ivon Herrera oh he wanted to pull the trigger was that tipped was that a foul tip yeah it’s a foul tip and that’ll be a strike out to end the game the Cardinals are going to challenge and say catcher interference that’s absolutely catcher interference catcher interference the review the ruling on the field is overturned it is catcher interference that will put fir Meine at second that will put Herrera at first and the Pirates who thought they had this game won now have to collect themselves and get one more batter Raise the Jolly Roger for real the reneg saves it what a game in St Louis

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 2-1 on June 11 at Busch Stadium. Connor Joe and Oneil Cruz drove in runs in the ninth to break the scoreless tie. In a career-high 6 1/3 innings pitched, Paul Skenes threw 8 Ks and didn’t issue a walk or allow a run.
