Let’s Talk About the Bizarre Story That is Major League Hockey

welcome back as promised I’m wearing my max power uh Jersey this is from geeky jerseys it was one of those custom ones they don’t really do the custom ones anymore where you can put whatever name you want on the back and I was like max power CU it’s my favorite Homer Simpson joke and since we’re going to talk about Max Chambers at some point in this video uh and I’m going to include in the description below this video an article I found on this entire I want to say debacle but I it just it feels like there’s there’s nothing here and yet there’s definitely something to talk about here um so definitely an interesting topic and again I thought I have to wear the max power Jersey I just have to now the NHL has dealt with rival leagues before going back to its Inception uh the NH changed its name to the NHL but the NHA name became that of Eddie Livingstone and Livingstone tried to bring the league back the NHL blocked them plus Livingstone just failed to launch the league in a couple of attempts that he made uh but eventually Livingstone would give up after various lawsuits and the NHL would sue him and it’s just a disaster uh the pcha was a rival to the National Hockey League they were in business from 1911 until 1924 the wh was founded in 1971 they lasted till 1979 uh and the wh was well known for signing guys to huge money contracts that NHL teams could afford but didn’t want to have to pay and the IHL the IHL never really fully committed to being an an alternative to the National Hockey League but they tried they tried to get sort of the bigger names and Gordy how played a game there for instance in the90s so that he had played in I think it was six different decades and they tried the Detroit vipers were pretty good there were some pretty nice jerseys in that League the IHL tried but eventually the costs and everything added up uh the league would go out of business it didn’t help that they expanded into NHL markets which essentially ticked off the National Hockey League and uh the teams that survived till 2001 were folded into the American Hockey League so the nhls had this situation with rival leagues um in the recent uh press conference by Gary bman in the league it was asked about what about Major League Hockey what do you guys think I I don’t know who asked that question but whoever asked that question did not do the full research around Major League Hockey um and the NHL has nothing to worry about they have nothing to worry about all I did was go to the major league hockey website and if you haven’t done it you can and all the information’s in there to tell you that this doesn’t feel legitimate it doesn’t feel like it’s an actual League that’s coming into existence this fall or this winter or probably at all uh 16 teams they advertised three Onre hockey uh $30 million salary cap per team which was immediately a red flag to everybody and I didn’t report on it at the time that this league uh was announced because I felt like okay we’ll see I I didn’t think that this was newsworthy because again it felt like you know somebody could have planted this information so you you and again in this day and age people don’t always vet as much as they should um Steve dangle did put out a tweet about it he deleted that pretty quickly thereafter uh I think realizing this may not be on the up and up or somebody may have told him either way I I don’t blame Steve for this things can happen um I got I’ve been scammed out of money myself over the last 6 months but hey uh at any rate it’s it wasn’t wasn’t a ton of money but I I learned my lesson uh always vet always vet where the money might be going even if it’s somebody that you know but anyways uh so the $100,000 Victory bonus for each winning team that’s that’s interesting so because of the way that the schedule set up a team could build up millions of dollars in bonus money just for winning games on top of the $30 million cap like you’re getting into serious serious money here and yet where from who and why so immediately people start speculating because you have Liv golf right which now you know the PGA and it’s all Saudi money uh WWE has taken a lot of money from Saudi Arabia uh which if if a corporation wants to do that they can but that was the expectation for people was if there’s this amount of money behind this league it kind of has to come from the Saudis right and there’s no evidence to this date it’s been a month now since the announcement came out that was weird and all uh about this league and apparently there had been rumors circulating for about a month before the announcement was made uh but there there is no evidence to suggest that there’s you know money involved or any kind of dark web stuff here it’s just it’s what it is when you go through the website the website has so many red flags it should just have like Alex Myers has the little red flag thing that goes across the bottom of his videos it should go across the bottom of your screen every time you scroll down um so the there’s generic maps of States uh New York California uh the state of BC because there’s provinces as well so British Columbia my my wonderful Province Saskatchewan Quebec Minnesota Arizona Missouri Nebraska sure why not Nebraska New England which is not a state so I mean like I understand there are states that are part of New England but weren’t there a lot of states that were part of New England at one point uh I know they’re not consider New England now but still uh Oklahoma Ontario Texas and Florida now the first thing that comes to mind is that’s a really you know varied locations and everything yeah travel costs would be an absolute nightmare absolute complete and total nightmare you are you are looking at almost every corner of North America here and having to have all the costs covered for your travel and everything it’s a lot of money and regardless of how many games are in a season or how short those games might be it’s a lot of money for travel it’s a lot of money for equipment it’s a lot of money for staff to track everything now the plan was to have uh I hate to keep talking about it in past tense but here we are uh 22040 it breaks my brain just reading this two 24 minute games per night games with a short intermission between games and what I’d heard to was that it was supposed to be two 12 minute periods but it’s two 24 minute games per night so I’m guessing it’s double headers uh and then it says fan-friendly admission well how can you have a $30 million salary cap per team $100,000 Victory bonus for each winning team in every single game and then sell tickets for 10 bucks each the math doesn’t add up um and it said only playing on Friday and Saturday nights where and how do you set that up because the NHL would love to have it where they could have every Saturday night in arenas and the reality is because of the way Arenas are booked and you know concerts and everything else that can go on in an arena it’s not that easy that’s why the scheduling looks so weird with the NHL at times why can’t they play on this date they just couldn’t there wasn’t any building availability so they have 16 teams which are in locations that are really generic they have two 24 minute games per night think about that that’s 48 minutes of hockey of three on three it’s a lot of time like it it’s one thing if it’s five on five but three on three that’s tough that’s that’s a lot of skating that’s tough and even though these players get paid ridiculous amounts of money for the work they’re doing that’s that’s a tough schedule but two games in a night um and then it’s a 14 player roster 12 skaters and and two goalies and the wording of this was weird and I made sure to write down what it said on the website free agents from North America Europe or Russia can sign as one of three Marquee players per team okay Marquee player meaning Conor McDavid like like and I I say this not trying to be factious but like Marquee players if you’re saying they’re all going to be pro hockey players what designates somebody as Marquee it doesn’t say how much a marquee player can make um and it also said women are eligible sure yeah women want to play in our league they can oh okay I’m I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with that I think if there was a female hockey player good enough to play in the National Hockey League they could uh Mano real played in a a preseason game and whether you saw that as uh being a a publicity stunt or whatever you saw it as at the time she didn’t look out place out there um and and so fine uh this is the one that kind of made me laugh I’m going to admit I kind of had a chuckle about this cuz I don’t know how this is possible uh the 2024 player draft already completed will be released shortly do players know they got drafted do you tell them do you just release the N are they the same players that are eligible for the NHL draft cuz they’re going to have some words if mlin celebrini is drafted by a generic New York team to play in billion dooll Corporation we promise it really exists I think he’s going to play in San Jose I I’m just going out an Lim here I think he’s going to say you know what I think I’ll play with the sharks um rather than whoever you know you’re going to show up it’s going to be like the movie Blackberry where you just show up and it’s a bunch of college kids sitting around playing Warhammer uh but yeah so it’s just it’s so bizarre uh and then they said they have retained Pro level coaches in many markets okay which markets and which coaches like if they’re Pro level coach if you if you want your league to be taken seriously who are the coaches and the article that I’m going to link in the description asks this question asks so okay which markets and which coaches and even just asked name a market name a building you have a lease in cuz he’s like oh you know we got all these leases and then when asked for give us a a name of a team you’ve got a lease with or a city you have a lease with an arena and he didn’t didn’t have an answer there was no answer to the question so the coaches in this league seem to be trust me bro the teams in this league seem to be trust me bro and if you want to be an executive or a coach you can email them what where where in in the world do you do this where how why like if I want to interview to be a coach normally I have a place to go and an owner to talk to there’s no no talk of an owner not even an owner of of the team but the chairman is listed as Max Chambers who apparently that’s the name of a guy who tried to buy the Blues in 2011 it does not mean it’s the same person and apparently tried to buy other teams uh director of player Personnel is listed as Aussie Chambers so the entire league has one director player Personnel again there are so many red flags I I just I wait wait wait wait wait wait wait you know I’ve I’ve had these sitting on this desk forever I’m I’m going to go ahead and I’m going to show a red card right here this is a red card that designates that this this isn’t a thing this is not a thing this this is not a thing uh its headquarters are listed as Victoria BC why like and I Victoria BC is a beautiful city it is a wonderful City it’s it’s got a very nice old world feel to parts of it and all that but it’s an odd place to have a headquarters for a league where it’s all over North America you’re going to have your headquarters out in Victoria and again where’s the building located it’s just Victoria so just wander around Victoria just go door too have you seen the headquarters for Major League Hockey have you seen the headquarters for Major League Hockey have have you like and and I mean sure I could you know we could fire up the the van go over to Victoria and go door Todo looking for Major League Hockey but I I don’t think I need to um the league also claimed they had 10 billion in the bank to guarantee the first five years it’s a red flag red red card red flag and all that I I jumped straight past the yellow card and went right to the red card um10 billion and this is where people were like it’s got to be money from somewhere that we we we perceive to be Shady right uh but there’s been no guar no no proof of any money being associated with this at all none um so 10 billion in the bank to guarantee the first five years I’m going to say nope uh and another thing too with the article I was reading that again be linked in the description no trademark filing has been made for major league hockey there’s no such thing as a corporation that doesn’t file a trademark not anything like this so I don’t think the NHL has anything to worry about I think what happens is people are so desperate for some alternative to the National Hockey League people who don’t like bman or they don’t like certain things about the NHL or you know the perception that they think that that the results are predetermined and all this and so I think it’s easier for something like this to to come up and people go hey this is going to be great but it doesn’t make sense it just it none of it makes any sense at all and it just everything that I’ve read it just to me it it sounds like somebody came up with a joke and was like how far can we push this and here we are so I didn’t do a video about it a month ago I felt that a lot of people piled on Steve for tweeting out about it and all that but I I honestly I will commend him that he he removed it pretty quickly thereafter and it’s pretty obvious that some people in the hockey world were kind of kind of snookered is the terminology for it right um which of course if you’re European or if you watch snooker you’ll understand if you don’t it just went right over your head but uh being snooker just kind of behind the eightball that kind of thing I yeah I don’t know I it is such a weird story it is so odd but it it doesn’t add up that we’ve done the draft we’ve got coaches we’ve got markets we’ve got a lease with all these buildings and again the article I was reading uh the reporter had called around to every arena with I think it was 6,000 or more that you could have in it uh to see if any of them had a lease with major league hocky because they’re claiming they have a team in in Min Minneapolis no none of them none of those Arenas had ever heard of Major League Hockey none of them had been contacted by Major League Hockey so the other option with this is that it’s some sort of a scam but I can’t even figure out what that is um again uh coaches and people who have emailed looking for you know potential job opportunities are just to be nosy I’ve been assured the 10 billion is there but again there’s no no actual proof of anything it’s weird it’s weird I’ve seen people compare it to Paul Spano now Paul Spano was um just a guy who wanted to own an NHL team that didn’t have any money he never tried to start a rival League he didn’t make multiple attempts to own a team he just uh can I have the Islanders the and went sure then later on was a you have money right and spano’s like funny story that anyways but I’ve done a video on Spano before on the channel who knows when I’m going through the history videos this summer maybe we’ll take another look at John Spano but uh I I don’t think we have to worry about Major League Hockey I I don’t I don’t I don’t think the NHL has anything to worry about I don’t think I have to worry that I’m going to have another League I have to cover and it’s going to be three on three hockey I don’t see it happening um we already have the three on three summer Showdown and there’s already plenty of hockey to watch around the world and so I I I don’t think that we’re ever going to see a rival League actually challenge the National Hockey League I don’t see how it works the NHL’s corner of the market they’ve got all the Arenas and all the big markets where are you going to put teams and how in the world are you going to actually make a dent in the NHL’s space when it comes to hockey so anyways there you go let me know your thoughts in the comment section below as
