The Milwaukee Brewers Just Outsmart Teams
the Milwaukee Brewers might not be the most talented team in major league baseball but they might be the smartest and that’s why they’re winning we’ll get to that coming up next here on lockon Brewer you are locked on Brewers your daily Milwaukee Brewers podcast part of the locked on podcast Network your team every day I love teams that play smart I love teams that over form and I love teams that win and we’re getting that from this Milwaukee Brewers team right now they’re doing everything and this is why they’re in first place and I’ve been watching this and watching this and it dawned on me today again it’s like man this team is so smart they outthink and outwork the other team hi everybody Chuck Freeman locked on Brewers part of locked on podcast Network we are your team every day good to have you along as you get up here on a Thursday morning Google Spotify Apple r all the major downloads wherever you download your podcast we are there I’m on Brewer podcast on the internet for a reason because you’re great Brewer fans out there and of course our growing YouTube Page search locked on Brewers hit the Subscribe button hit the Bell they’ll alert you every time we drop an episode here on locked on Brewers excuse me there for a second item an English muffin with butter peanut butter on it I was so hungry before doing this tonight and I was like man I got to have something to eat nothing in the house if I opened up the Doritos I’d be destroying that whole bag so I had to eat something that I wasn’t really hungry for but I ate anyway but I’m good now and I went out to dinner late last night too so um it’s all good hey everybody hop about the Milwaukee Brewers it was great being out there again today you know I love me some Wednesday afternoon or Thursday afternoon midweek Brewers baseball I love it man beautiful day temperatures in the mid 80s watching our favorite baseball team just outthink and outwork the other team um yes Pat Murphy is out smarting other teams this is something I thought I’d see more of Craig Council doing but Pat Murphy’s actually doing it hearing him analyze a double steal today at the postgame press conference and The Scouting that they do on it is fantastic I almost swore there and put a prefix for that it is fantastic I love it he was talking about and of course when a reporter asked him about it he’s not he joking said you want me to give you the sign and then he was talking about or the infielders position and what this has got to happen and the Pitcher delivered to the plate and he felt you know with in that sixth inning it was a one- nothing game in favor of Toronto it was your one of your typical Brewer games where they were stranding Runners on first base left and right their bases loaded and name it uh guys uh coming up with Runners on base um first and second base is loaded first and second one out first and third two outs in the sixth inning when the Brewers finally dented the scoreboard first and third two outs there was nobody out in the inning and then Blake Perkins drew a walk and that got things going right there Perkins draws the walk and I see got my scorecard here uh then terang you know terang is just going to find a way to get on base base hit he had Runners at the corners with contras up you had Runners at the corners with Contreras up and they did a double steal and in comes third in from third uh comes Perkins and the Brewers tied up now Kirk the catch up for Toronto threw the ball to the shortstop who was cut again they had a play on I thought the Brewers just caught them with their pants down quite honestly and I heard Schneider the manager I was there for the press conference he talked about they had the play on and that uh Kirk the catch it for Toronto just threw the ball low I don’t know to me I thought I thought they caught him off guard I didn’t think they thought with contras at the plate that the Brewers would be uh putting on The Squeeze Play there the double steel not The Squeeze Play The Double steel and they did and Kirk’s throw was in the dirt to to the short stop and the Run comes home just beautifully executed just smart baseball and the Brewers look up and down it’s like terang smart Conta smart Yelich smart Willie adomas High baseball IQ s Freel High baseball IQ Jake Bowers I don’t know about his baseball IQ just yet but let’s assume he’s smart uh Jackson chel 20 years old does a lot of smart things Oliver Dunn smart things Blake Perkins smart things all these guys you can’t look at any one of those guys I named and say and feel nervous about them something that’s going to cost their team a game all of those guys are going to do something to contribute to the team’s Victory and get the job done this is a smart baseball team uh I thought Murphy pulled the rug right over Schneider’s uh eyes with that double steal I don’t think the Blue Jays were ready for that as well and then later in the bat okay you know they get another they get a base hit by contaras yelow drives it run with a base hit so it’s three to one at this point and then Willie Adam Yanks or he didn’t yank it he drilled it to straightaway Center off the scoreboard halfway up the scoreboard 51 and I told my buddy Spencer Williams yes Spencer you made my podcast my buddy Spencer Williams from the Wisconsin radio network is Spencer this game is over over over we’ll get to the nth inning coming up here in a little bit over so they’re up 5-1 and you see the body language of the Blue Jays out there just terrible s freck lays a drag bunt down the first base line let’s get the party started again now unfortunately he never scored because the next player um Bowers made out but just a smart move you know you got the defense back there just you know feeling horribly because the Brewers just put up five runs after two R and then fre like trying to get the party started again with a little drag base hit now he didn’t score but I like the idea the point is the idea was great smart baseball is great I love watching teams out think you know the Brewers are talent wise you know look at who the Blue Jays got bashet Springer and vad Guerrero I changed my mind about Vlad Guerrero after seeing him this series any he pinch hit let the Cubs have him I said let’s not have hopefully Vlad Guerrero is not in this division God you talk about a guy who doesn’t hustle let the Cubs go after Vlad Guerrero and let’s hope they give up a ton for him yeah I have no problem with Vlad Guerrero in this division watching just him Sleepwalk through two and a half games all the talent of the world that guy has I mean that guy had I thought he had super St start him on his mind in 2021 with the 48 home runs you know again the Jays do rally in the Ning they put up three runs they got three hits off of hobby Miller to start the inning and then Trevor m Gil walks a runner to load the bases and think old boy Bases Loaded nobody out um and a strikeout to Springer and two fly outs one to Kirk straightaway Center Vlad comes up with the tying run at third I told my buddy Spencer Vlad ain’t doing nothing here he ain’t doing nothing here Mill G to get him and Migel does and Migel goes out and does his job we were talking as a media pack with Mill after the game today says well he was asked and great question because I think it was Todd rosak who asked him um you know about getting uh into that game because it’s a 5-1 game at that point and as a closer you might not be able to you know get get ready for that game you might not be in that game mentally in that game physically ready to pitch that game because you’re thinking oh you’re not gonna you’re not going to go but he was needed Milner gave him three base hits to start the the ninth and it was getting scary there for a little bit but then Migel came into the game and he said yep he starts preparing himself the whole game mentally and physically and all that and he was asked about the closers role he says hey I’m just here to get three outs just here to get three outs I mean team guy team guy team team team this Milwaukee Brewer team is not I could tell you from being in that Clubhouse several times this is not a group of individuals on this team this is not a team with a lot of egos they’ve got great leadership again they might not be the most talented team in the world they’re not the most talented team they’re not they’re not the most talented team in this in this division when healthy they’re not the most talented you add all these injuries to it and yes the Brewers got to do these things and they do and they execute and they don’t they don’t beat themselves they don’t beat themselves I love watching them you have sometimes there’s games like Tuesday night 3 nothing when you’re like oh boy you know and today’s was going that same direction and then murf put on that double steel of home and we got some Bingo going on in the sixth inning so I’ve been talking about how smart the Brewers are I haven’t even got to debias Meers yet who again another arm on this team nobody was expeced to do good nobody was I me the guy wasn’t even on the 40-man roster and he’s come up and been fantastic just fantastic we’ll get to all that coming up next here on locked on Brewers part of lock on podcast Network price picks price picks are you able to read the Milwaukee Brewers or the Blue Jays or the Yankees you think you could pick uh and turn $10 into $1,000 by watching your favorite sports this summer you can make priz picks their lineup you make it in about 60 seconds you just need to pick more or less on two to six players uh there stat projections and you’re locked in maybe you think willly Adamas is going to have under whatever the over and underest hit is half one and a half whatever it is you think you’re G to have under on that or contarus or you’re goingon to think over on RB or home runs for somebody mix a match between two and six and you watch your money multiply the more you win uh coming up here in the month of June also the perfect time to try out something new with basketball winding down uh every Wednesday and Saturday try out Esports if your lineup doesn’t win you’ll get your entry fee back so all you got to do is turn that 10 bucks into a couple of hundred with a couple of easy picks do it right now get to prize picks it’s a great way to go prize picks uh I’m going to give you the the code to get to here um locked on MLB that first deposit match up to 100 bucks download the app pricee picks use that promo code lock MLB first deposit match up to 100 bucks again pick more pick less it’s that easy with priz picks Chuck Freeman here lock on Brewers part of lock on podcast Network we are your team every day yeah I was fed up watching that game today yeah yeah you knew what Gil was gonna get out of it hey the Brewers don’t lose these midweek afternoon games do they but telling you I think they’re unbeaten in these afternoon games um they’re the third team in the nashon league to 40 wins okay who would have guessed that I don’t know if there was a prop bet out there probably not but they’re Now 37 wins away from hitting y over with their 40th win and here we are not even to Mid June just yet not even to quarterly tax day yet and the Brewers are more than halfway to that 76 and a half wins and I’m GNA be cashing my ticket I’m GNA be cashing my ticket that over on the 76 and half wins but yeah that the ninth inning got a little scary hobby was giving up some hits and then Migel came on and got the job done uh Brewers again many opportunities early on uh didn’t uh cash in but then you know he Murphy looked at the you know he looked at his sheet there and he saw well you know all these runners in scoring positions we’re doing it again tonight let’s find a way to manufacture Runners at first and third and with Contreras up who would have thought and I don’t care what Schneider says out there I thought the Blue Jays had their pants down to their ankles they had their pants down on that play they were not ready their pants were down to their ankles because they were not ready they caught him off guard off guard so good for them good for the Brewers and the Brewers were the better team and they’re the sparter team and they’re the most talented team on that field they took two or three another two or three you know what they took they got swept by the Phillies last week three straight and we thought oh we could go today we thought well here we go they had an off day and they took two of three from Detroit and they come back and they take two of three from uh the Toronto Blue Jays and now the reds are coming in town before the Brewers go on a West Coast trip for a first time this year West Coast remember last year Brewers hit the west coast up in April but they got the West Coast they got a couple of trips coming up the West Coast this year so good for the Brewers let’s get two or three from the Reds and by the way un locked on Brewers tomorrow it’ll be a crossover with the fellas from Lockdown Reds which is always fun Jeff Carr and Company will be joining us uh coming up tomorrow we’ll be joining them a little bit of crossover all right I like it yep the Blue Jays had their pants down really their pants were down and the Brewers were able to take advantage and get the job done just how smarting the Blue Jays I love that just man Pat Murphy people doubted that guy when they when they Brewers hired him I saw some groans from people Well Ricky week should be the manager in Waiting Pat Murphy right now is the manager of the year in baseball there’s no doubt about it anybody else you know any one of these National guys want to challenge me on that um have at it Pat Murphy is the manager of the year in Major League baseball period American National League doesn’t matter Pat Murphy manager of the year um Tobias Myers how about this guy was it again not in a 40 man roster he’s up his record to three and two a 3.76 earn run average he pitched last Friday pitched at one hitter over eight Innings against Detroit and he comes right back six Innings over three uh three hits over six Innings and funny thing is murf said yeah I could have kept him out there he was dealing I could have kept them out there but I decided to you know bring him back a little bit our Bullpen is fresh we got Thursday you know murf you know smart manager uh Brian Wilson um Brian Hudson coming in and you know Brian Hudson’s not going to give up any runs that guy is so rock solid uh and then you know again ninth inning got a little scarier but that’s okay but Tobias Meyers feeling more and more confident he says after every start going out there and he says he’s not overthinking things outright uh now anymore he’s just going out there and pitching his game but how about it where would they be without Tobias Meyers Colin Ray guys like that 12 different starters on this team even Rodriguez Tuesday night pitched well enough you know I know he got it some early jams and all that but Rodriguez you know did enough uh if the Brewer offense could have rescued him a little bit so um Meyers here to stay in that rotation I think the Brewers love him seems like a good kid we had a chance to interview him of course after the game today um and that was it reys hos I’ll say this ree Hoskins not lineup now I asked uh I asked I asked around a little bit on this I said what’s the deal with ree Hoskins not in the lineup and I hope it’s not a righty Lefty thing with reys Hoskins and some feel like they were just give him in the day off so um Bowers did play first base uh but and he grounded out with a bases load it back in the first inning but I don’t care if it’s righty or Lefty let’s not be platooning our guy reys Hoskins Rees Hoskins is an everyday player he shouldn’t be platooning but I I was worried that since there was a righty on the mount I was like oh no murf’s not he’s not getting Bowers in there because he’s platooning Hoskins is he so it appears I don’t have official word but from people I trust I’ve talked to sounds like they were giving Hoskins AR rest uh injury update Ortiz he says his hamstring isn’t all that bad he feels like he’s going to be ready to play coming up here maybe Friday night feels his hammy he heard his hammy a couple of days ago but uh you know he’s having a really good year All-Star type year I would say he’s probably not going to be an All-Star because of name recognition doesn’t have a big enough name just yet but of course if you play with the Yankees everybody would heard of uh Joey Ortiz uh Mark atanasio I saw his saw this he’s trying to invest in a Portugal soccer team now a guy could do with his money whatever he wants to do I’m not gonna tell him what to do with his money me especially um but you know I don’t know I just I just when when when my team has not won a championship yet okay my owner I’d like to see him concentrate on my baseball team and put his resources into my baseball team if I’m selfish on that okay but owning a major league baseball team is big stuff and I know all these guys got other things going on and he’s got that investment in a British soccer team I want to say but apparently he’s showing some interest in in in a Portugal soccer team from what I understand H again he’s allowed to do obviously whatever he wants to do but I prefer my owner to be like George steinber owning well you know George steinber own part of the Chicago Bulls too but he was a very very very minor order he was not going in watching the Bulls in the 70s George steinner was owning the Yankees and he lived and breathed and died with the New York Yankees now I don’t need to be Mark honos will be controlling all the player moves like Stein Brer the boss was doing but I like that um Stein brener bought the team and I if I pay you to do something you’re going to do it you if I if I’m paying you $700,000 you better go you better hit me uh you know 35 home runs and and this is $700,000 back in the 70s if I made you $700,000 you’re better to go out there and produce for me I like that I kind of like that attitude not everybody could play for him um you know his firing managers left and right but uh I liked him as an owner I always liked it George steinber and I’m not saying Mark honas was gonna be like that complete control freak but I want Anon AIO to be focused on the Milwaukee Brewers we need money to spend for a pitcher or an outfielder come July please I don’t want you spending your money in Portuguese soccer in British soccer I want you on American Milwaukee Brewers baseball my vested interest and yours maybe I’m reading too into into that I’ll tell you what Ken Rosenthal talking about trading Willie adamus come on please we’ll get to that coming up next here on lockon Brewers part of lockon podcast Network we are your team every day policy home stretch of lockdown Brewers part of lockdown podcast Network we are your team every day we’ll be the guys from Lockdown Reds tomorrow talking some Brewers Reds this series I know the Brewers have had the Reds number this year doing a nice job against the Reds lead the season series and uh you know they got a couple of real good players Reds they’ve had a couple of nice winning streaks this year uh had a seven game winning streak ended this weekend by the Cubs um but they’re in the thick of the things just like everybody else is you know seven seven and a half games behind the Brewers in the NL Central so a little thing on Ken Rosenthal says the Brewers should trade Willie Adamas for for pitching before I get into this I got to take a quick drink ah there we go what trade Willie Adamas for who are you kidding me did you see the score the home run off the scoreboard if you were going to trade ad Damas for pitching should have did that before the season started no don’t be trading the heartbeat of this team Willie Damas for anybody Rosenthal says they need pitching trade Willie adamus for pitching that would be such a stupid move for the Brewers to make we remember the Josh hater move a couple of years ago and where that sent this team adamus has got the ear of a lot of a lot of kids on this team Adamas is a veteran okay and he’s got the ear of a lot of kids on this team he is like I said the pulse of this team he’s the heartbeat of this team he’s the man on this team he’s one of the big team leaders on this team along with a few others like Freddy Peralta um but I would say if the Brewers even thought about trading Willie Adamas shame on them Ken Rosenthal come on you know better than them trade for pitching it’s not been the pitching that’s been the problem for the Brewers it’s been the offense let’s face it guys right we keep talking about pitching pitching pitching and maybe the pitching does Meltdown but right now scoring runs seems to be an issue with this team but I have no question I don’t doubt that they’re going to go for pitching when the time comes they’ll acquire a couple of arms and they’re not going to be top of the guy top of the level guys they’re going to be some Bargain Basement blue light specials that the Brewers will always get so and we’ll be disappointed but the guy will probably come out there and do his job sometimes the Brewers make a trade like that it doesn’t work we don’t have to name names but they’ve made some trades like that that have not work well that’s going to do it for me today thank you everybody you The Milwaukee Brewers are one of the smartest teams in baseball. They outthink and outwork others teams. They did it again by taking two of three from the Toronto Blue Jays..Ken Rosenthal says the Brewers should trade Willy Adames for pitching???Tobias Myers has won himself a spot in the Brewers rotation going forward (in my opinion) We have a ton to get to on this episode of “Locked on Brewers”

good to get mcgil back i didnt realize he was back in the lineup, we gotta keep these guys at the bottom of the order going
I hope they dont trade Willy, He lifts the whole team. Yesterday I was so sure he would hit a homer , because this is what he does, that I called my daughter to watch. She thought it was a recording.
TOTALLY agree about Pat Murphy. He is "the straw that stirs the drink." (Yelich).
Lol, glad Chuck changed his mind about Vlad Guerrero JR. Lol, the guy lacks hustle as stated. So, yes, if the Cubs want to throw more money away, let them.
Lol, "We got some bingo going on in the 6th inning." (Friemond). I loved that inning. It all happened with 2 outs and Perkins being smart drawing that intitial walk. Then of course the fireworks.
Yep, Chuck, you're going to cash on the over 76 wins for the season. Good forsight.
Great to see Yelich with 3 hits today.
Yesterday (Game 2) when he struck out his first AB, he looked dismal feebly swinging at bad pitches, I thought to myself "Oh Oh, here we go again. Leftie on the mound and Dunn, Frelick & Bauers as only choices for pinch-hitting."
So I am so glad Myers is making me look stupid.
I feel like Pat Murphy is good chess player, because he utilizes that surprise element so often. As Chuck F. says multiple times, "The Bluejays were caught with their pants down." Totally agree that Pat Murphy is manager of the year.
Tobias Myers totally surprised me pitching well on a 2nd straight outing. Twice might not be luck or circumstantial. I feel like the Brewers are walking on eggshells when Tobias Myers takes the hill though. I don't know if that feeling gets fixed.
With Joey Ortiz down temporarily, my prediction is this: Sal Frelick will get reps on 3rd base, thus allowing Garret Mitchell the ability to enter the outfield without canning someone. Also, I'll predict or maybe I'd like to see another surprise move by Murphy by putting Blake Perkins in Joey Ortiz's spot in the leadoff spot. Here is my agrument for Perkins in the occasional leadoff spot: 1. Perkins is 8 of 9 stealing bases this year compared to Ortiz who is 4 of 7. No Turang here, but still not that bad. 2. Perkins numbers are better across the board than Monesterio's right now. 3. OPS league average is .700 right now. Perkins is above average at .712. League batting average is .243 NL and .238 AL. Perkins is above average at .255.
Myers the pickoff king!!
