MONTREAL CANADIENS TRADE TALK: CAREY PRICE TRADE UPDATE

[Music] yeah you’re seeing that right man the year is 2024 and we are talking about the Montreal Canadians and the idea of them trading carry price baby yes this is a Revival you know what it’s always a good day on Habs YouTube Habs social media when carry price gets brought into the Forefront probably the most talented Montreal Canadians goenda one of the most talented of all time not the most decorated in terms of overall numbers and Hardware but still if you were to take a look at the entire Montreal Canadian scope of goal tending there’s one name that defines this era and it’s Carrie Price he’s 36 years old now $10.5 million a year is the contract and it’s signed on till the end of 2526 price hasn’t played a game since the 2122 season it’s been 2 years and honestly you know he’s always been there he’s been in the back of our minds we all recognize that price is a flashback to better times for the Montreal Canadians not just in terms of their competitive window but literally in terms of their Stanley Cup finals appearance he was pretty much the guy that will that into existence posting up a 924 save percentage in 22 games played the year before that that in the bubble playoffs he had a 936 save percentage in 10 games played price is a stud Olympic gold Ted Lindsay winning goalie har winning goalie if Chris kryder hadn’t done the Chris krider then who knows maybe the Montreal Canadians have a Stanley Cup in the 20110 but in this video what we’re doing is responding to an article posted by Mark deont on Montreal hockey now why the Montreal Canadian should explore trade options for Carrie Price now pause firstly I’ll say this Carrie Price and the idea of him leaving Montreal has been discussed before we had talked about this on this YouTube channel in varying forms we had talked about the ideas of carrye price getting taken by Seattle in the expansion draft if they need to reach the cap floor Carrie and his $10.5 million contract will certainly help out in that respect we had discussed the idea of the Canadians trading him to other teams but with Mark D going out there and writing this article he brings the idea back up again and it makes a lot of sense honestly take a look at this the Montreal Canadians will have plenty of cap space to work with heading into the summer but there are a few things worth pointing out as we evaluate how much cap space will truly be available particularly when it comes to price the Habs will have almost $17 million in available funds but given that Price’s contract is still part of the mix timing comes into play now this is where Duman goes out there and drops the bomb to reach maximum Financial maneuverability the Montreal Canadians must place carry prices contract on the ltir which comes with its own set of limitations due to how ltir is calculated placing a player on ltir does not remove the salary cap hit from the team’s overall budget it does however allow the team to spend additional funds above the $88 million salary cap for 2425 essentially what Duman is talking about is how the Montreal Canadians can only take advantage of carry price in is $10.5 million on the ltir if they have a team that is already at the cap ceiling they need to spend extra dollars on a whole bunch of guys to make sure they reach the maximum available cap before they’re able to activate carry price on the ltir and get that $10.5 million extra that they’re able to spend over the cap it’s $88 million you’re not allowed to have a roster that is at $80 million without carry prices cap attached to it and just say oh no we’ll go $2 million over the cap because carry prices on the LTI no you have to be spending 88 already before acknowledging prices capit you’re only able to use LTI if you reach the cap ceiling already Mark Duman writes that this means that Canadians will have to use their regular cap space before heading into ltir territory which limits their op options to a certain extent before we read on I wanted to say that this is an interesting idea because we’ve seen it a few times with different teams how some teams like to go above the cap ceiling they’ll use their ltir and just grab as many guys as they can at the trade deadline go over the cap and then once the playoffs begin boom everybody’s healthy again etc etc but the same could be applied for the opposite side we’ve seen teams go out there and acquire ltir caliber players just because they need to hit the cap floor because they’re spending so little dollars that they need to actually spend more to be an appropriate NHL team so in order to reach the cap floor they’ll just get a whole bunch of guys that aren’t even going to play for them okay who cares if we have a $10 million guy on our payroll that’s not going to play I mean we need his money to reach the cap floor of course that’s a very extreme circumstance but some teams have utilized this opportunity by saying hey you need to get rid of that carry price contract you can if you give them to us and you give us a first round pick on top of that certain teams have used that to their advantage because sometimes other teams just prefer not to go down the ltir where they’re forced to spend to the cap ceiling before they could use ltir Dumont then writes this that for Carrie Price having him in the ltir is not ideal from a salary cap standpoint if the Canadians had managed to move his contract prior to today they’d be heading into the season with $17 million in cap space that would ACR significant gains throughout the year cap space and expenditures are calculated on a daily basis during the season and if a team is below the salary cap their available salary cap space will increase every day but seeing as prices funds are tied into the ltir it’s virtually impossible for the Habs to improve their cap throughout the season this limits more than just the roster building options it also prevents them from absorbing expiring contracts at the trade deadline in exchange for draft capital or other important assets the obvious solution here Dumont writes is to trade carry Price’s contract to a team that wants to save money navigate a complicated ltir situation or reach the salary cap floor now the reason Dumont is writing about this hey they could actually save money if a team goes out there and acquires price it’s because Carrie Price has owed $11 million in bonuses over the course of the last two seasons on his contract with the next payment scheduled for July 1st 5.5 mil teams are unlikely to want to discuss any matter of a trade before his penultimate signing bonuses paid out in a few weeks but come July 2 carry price will only be owed one final five .5 million signing bonus the following year while touching a very reasonable $2 million in salary per season which essentially means whatever team acquires carry price after July 1st will not be needing to pay him all too much money it’s only 9.5 mil for the next 2 years which is certainly doable it’s just the cap hit that is 10.5 of course that doesn’t change it’s always going to be there but there’s a difference between the cap hit which is the number that is registered on your salary cap and the amount of money you’re actually paying the dude if this guy gets his bonus and he’s all of a sudden a lot cheaper because he’s going to cost only $2 million throughout the year and a 5.5 million bonus next year it becomes a lot easier for our team to say hey could this be the answer to our situation where we can save some money by acquiring a solid big beefy juicy cap hit but we don’t have to pay too much money to the guy to match that cap hit we can navigate our own situation by reaching the salary cap floor or we could navigate our own LTI situation by getting this guy on our team this of course would benefit the Montreal Canadians because if they are just spending and spending and spending in order to hit the cap ceiling to activate that ltir contract you’re going to end up feeling the hits of what a lot of extra money tied up in random players can do to you as unfortunate as it is to say the Montreal Canadians on paper are not the most skilled team they’re not the most talented team so why would it be excused for them to spend all the way to the cap ceiling like some of these other teams you’re going to be spending a lot of extra guys in your middle to bottom lines and pairings just so you can hit the cap ceiling to activate carry prices ltir just get rid of carry Price’s contract get rid of that huge Albatross of a deal and then your roster is more flexible you don’t have to Shell out three and a half million bucks to third liners just so you can get that cap ceiling it’s a pretty interesting idea and I want you to let me know your thoughts in the comments section below how do you feel about trading carry price in 2024 is this the move do you think there’s a team that’s going to go out there and think about this kind of a deal is it possible let me know your thoughts in the comment section below what you think the Canadians could trade away in order to get rid of K Price’s contract or do you think carry price would actually be the prize some team would actually want him and therefore pay a price to get him is it carry price and a second for future considerations or is it carry price for a second what are your thoughts about this entire idea let me know in the comments section below I hope you enjoyed this vsh as99 and bye [Music] [Music]

  1. Highly unlikely but I just want to see Price play one last time. I was a forward all my life but price made me ask for a real ccm glove for my 12th birthday, that’s how much impact he had on my childhood and several others… he was so good😢

  2. He's never playing again. What would the habs have to provide to get someone to take this contract? He's not a flashback to better times. He was a killick around the neck of the team.
No one is taking him unless the habs provide a sweetener. He can't play anymore.

  3. they should give us a first round pic for trading the price contract. we are helping other teams out. otherwise i would be inclined to keep his contract and go out and find a free agent or two.

  4. i don t GET IT! all this mysterious manoeuvring; LTIRs// ordinary IR s…salary caps, that aren t…………WTH? offer Price to Carolina, our best trading buddys– AND ! offer sheet M. Necas, oh, 9.9 MIILIONs $$$ for 8 years (( ha ha ))…. watch the fur fly !
