this is going to be the question we have all season long Bengals defensive coordinator Lou anarumo confirmed Cincinnati is taking the best possible path towards replacing DJ reader and you guys know if you follow the channel it hurts that we lost DJ reader it really does but as I’ve said many times you know just like losing Jesse B sometimes things happen you know we lost Von Bell we got him back we lost Hayden Hur we didn’t win him back it’s part of football it’s the ugly part of football and it’s just stuff you got to deal with but we got the mutant now and we got Jackson but more importantly we got the mutant I love the mutant you guys do not know I already bought his jersey I already bought uh Chris shenen Jersey cuz I am so so so excited for the mutant he is going to become arguably top five defensive tackle in Bengals history I’m calling it right now I don’t care if anyone says the mutant is going to be the guy if you’ve watched my draft like my pre-draft stuff and my mock drafts I had us taken the mutant back in I believe like December I said in December January that we were going to take Chris Jenkins in the second round and we ended up doing it and I don’t usually get predictions correct so I love this guy but there’s a reason why by the way I loved him because he’s so good play Michigan’s defensive line obviously they just won The Natty but this guy was a menace I mean he’s not really that crazy great of a pass rusher he does have shorter arms but he’s crazy strong and he can shut down the run and he can help us in that category he’s pretty much a prototypical nose tackle and that’s exactly what we need here would I still have loved to got um Bri uh Byron Murphy probably but this was my second best option and I loved it so let’s talk about it so here’s what Lou said we’re trying to see how we can replace DJ maybe a couple of different pieces two young guys who can play a big role uh who will play big roles in that with will be Chris Jenkins and McKinley Jackson so you know that stuff will get all ironed out in training camp and that is true I’m sure again I love the mutant um he might take a season or two a season season and a half to really get going going but I think eventually he’ll be he will be that guy um but yeah McKinley Jackson our third round pick another really good option and in reality as is many times in the pass they’ll say it again it comes down to giving as many weapons as possible to loudini and having these rotational guys is just is exactly what you need you got remember we still have BJ Hill who can still shut up the middle and destroy the middle and also get interceptions now Sheldon rankins isn’t really a run Defender he’s more of a pass rusher or interior guy but you know he’s still a big body guy he can still plug a couple holes yeah I said that out loud by the way this what he had to say other than what I just read it’s hard to judge any player in the spring especially o line dline the jobs are required to hit someone somebody every play so while these guys have done everything we’ve asked of them they’ve done a good job with what they have been presented to do it will show itself as we get throughout training camp and I feel like this is why I was so so so against AZ making an article about like the players that their stock has went down in after you know uh minatory mini camp and rookie mini camp I’m like it’s stupid you don’t see anything in OTAs and mandatory mini camp you really don’t all you see in the end by the way the person who wrote this article was AZ Sports by the way shout out to that um nonetheless though you don’t see any anything uh it’s such a small time period it’s our first chance to actually see the rookies actually see our guys in action you really just get like a representation or a confirmation of you selected the right guy that’s what you really get in these mini camps and these OTAs you get kind of the first look to say okay this guy is athl as athletic as I thought he was he can move like I thought he was he knows the basic technique he knows the basic principles and you kind of get a first look at them in your system but until as Lou said you go through training camp and you see these guys actually playing in action in the preseason you really don’t know crap at the end of the day you know this why again I I will say during training camp stocks will go up and down depending but it really doesn’t matter until you get to the preseason once the preseason kicks off that’s when you really can start making indications about players cuz you see them on the field everyone looks good in practice there’s a age- old mentality of that that everyone’s going to look good when the pads are off everyone’s going to look good when you’re not getting hit or worried about getting hit you know can you go catch a football yes can you go catch a football when Brian Dawkins is right across from you about to smash you in the middle of the field maybe not there’s a little bit of a difference when it comes to how you play play in prce versus on the field some players are great in prce because the stakes are lower when it comes to them having to go against people but again you know PR makes perfect so we’re going to see a lot more of that in training camp and stuff like that I think Chris Jenkins will replace DJ reader in the end I think Jackson will be a really good rotational piece as well though tell me down below your thoughts opinions I’ll see you guys the next one
